Is it too boring or old fashioned?
What if it was a family name or the name of a friend who had passed away?

I wouldn't use it, but that's only because there are other names I like more. BUT I don't think it's too old fashioned or boring. I know a couple guys named Dennis who are around my age, and the name doesn't seem weird on them or anything. And if it was a family name or something and I really liked it, I would definitely use it.

I wouldn't initially but bc it's a family name and/or if it was a really good friend that passed away then I would.

I wouldn't just because it's my ex-uncle's name. He's a real jerk. But I don't see anything wrong with the name. Except when people spell it with 1 n. Then my inner 9 year old comes out.

I'm not a fan, but I know someone with the name Dennison and I like that much better.

I like it a lot, and I really love when names have family or special significance!

I dated a guy named Dennis is high school. Everyone called him Denny.
It's not a name I get super excited about, but it's a perfectly fine, traditional name. If it was a family/friend name, that would give me a reason to be excited about it.

I know two pretty cool men (over 50) named Dennis. I associate the name with fun and fun loving, but wouldn't use it myself.

I would if my last name didn't start with S. My husband has an uncle with that name though. Nothing wrong with it!

i wouldnt because my last name is pronounced Denny but spelled differently but bc of that we also threw out Jennifer, Kenneth, Leonard, Penelope.
I do know a few people named Dennis and i dont think the comic strip Dennis the Menace is relevant but the movie from when we were kids might be fun to show your son if thats what you pick

I wouldn't just cause it's not my style - but I have to say the first thing I thought of when I read the title was Dennis the Menace.

I like it. I had an uncle named Dennis that passed away. If I had a boy it would be on my list but my last name ends in "-is" so I don't think it sounds right. (Even though my uncle's last name did too)

If it has special meaning I would use it, but I'm not a fan of the name by itself.

I wouldn't personally, but I like more unusual names.
I think it's a perfectly good name, however. Classic and masculine.

All I can see is this
which is unfortunate because it's a nice old fashioned name

I'm eh about it - don't love, but don't hate it. If it was special relationship with the name, I'd use it.

@MrsTiz: Yeah, my first thought was Dennis the Menace, too. I'd use it as a middle name in remembrance.

@MrsTiz: @mrsjazz: I said the same thing..I felt awful cause no one else said that! phew.

i don't like it, but it's because we know 1 guy named dennis and he's a complete douchebag.

I'm not a huge fan but I like the nn Denny so if it was an important family name I'd probably use it and call him Denny! Dennis is my FIL's name.

Personally I don't like the name but it's only because one of my aunt's married a Dennis and every time I see her, she always talks about her bad marriage and always always points out...
Dennis backwards is "Sinned" ... and that she should have known it would be bad.

@MrsTiz: hahah I didn't even think about that!

We're Jewish so we name after deceased family members. My grandpa's name is Dennis. I would have used it but DH didn't love it.

It is my son's middle name. After my late father.
I think it is a great name.

Not as a first name (immediately thought of Dennis the Menace here, too) but I might make it the middle name if it was to honor a late someone who was very important to me.
