Anyone use a woven wrap for older baby/toddler? Is it worth the cost? I just saw one on the Christmas wish list post today and had no idea there were good wraps for older babies! I loved the moby until LO got to big for it and have been using a beco and ring sling since. Not in love with either. Wondering if I'd like a woven wrap.

They are awesome. In my opinion-- totally worth it. I still wear Lorelei at 21 months, and, depending on your kid, you might wear them well into the preschool years. I did with Ellie. Also, if you are outdoorsy it sure beats trying to "carry" a 50lb kiddo if they get tired on a long walk or hike. I have several wraps and always have at least one on hand no matter where we go. Just yesterday I used it because we went to Ellie's school for lunch and I needed to navigate the lunch line and be able to carry all the food without having Lorelei run off unattended. So I wore her. It's great for fostering relationships and development... I could really go on and on.

LOVE my woven! It's by far the months supportive of the BWing options I have on hand (the others are a Beco Butterfly II and a Girasol WCRS). I love it mostly for back carries. It makes getting stuff done around the house, like cleaning and cooking dinner, a lot more doable. Not to mention all the other benefits of BWing.
I will caution, wovens come with quite the learning curve. And they are a little subculture unto themselves. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I think it's important to know before jumping in, especially because they really are an investment. I would recommend watching some videos on YouTube (I like WrappingRachel and BabywearingFaith) to see what's involved before you purchase.

@MRS. TWINE - that's very helpful! We love to go hiking but haven't done it much with LO because its hard to find trails where the stroller fits and can navigate. I really think I'll like them for that reason.
My LO really likes to be held (he's 8 mo), and although he'll be walking soon, I feel like I'll get a lot of use out of it (plus we plan on more LOs).
@HEARTONASTRING - thank you so much for the YouTube video recommendations. I'll check those out for sure. I currently get very little done at home because LO always wants to be held, so I'm hoping it could help me a little bit.

@Dagny: I have tried and owned many different styles/brands. I always tell people that it is a very personal decision. I have used Oscha, Natibaby, Ellevill, Wrapsody, Didymos, Storchenweige, Ellaroo, several handwovens, and a handful of others. If there is a lending library or babywearing group near you, it would be a great place to try some things out and see what appeals to you. As a general rule, linen and hemp blends are best for heavier babies and kids-- they tend to be stronger and more supportive. But there are exceptions to every rule-- my all cotton handwoven is my strongest and most comfortable wrap and I would use it with 52 pound Ellie before I would use any of the others.
Since you're an outdoor enthusiast (like me) I think you will love how wrapping allows you to go anywhere you would have gone pre-baby (granted, you will likely be a little more cautious with rocky terrain, steep hills, etc., but you will still be SO mobile!) and enables you to be more adventurous if you have a toddler or child who might get tired out before you do. I took Lorelei for a fantastic walk through the snow on some of our property the other day; up a steep hill, over a creek, through a grove... it was just gorgeous. I wore her on my hip and we chatted about what we could see and hear. It was just so peaceful! And this morning we went for a walk through the groves around the house and saw a bunny and birds, a pheasant, and a squirrel. And lots of evidence of deer.

@MRS. TWINE- that's a good idea - I will try finding a local group to try one out.. It sounds like you live in a really cool area! How beautiful!! My husband and I are planning a trip to Washington state next year and bringing a wrap for hiking and such would be SO much better than our Kelty backpack!

YES! I LOVE my woven and rarely have ever used a stroller, in favor of wrapping. I wore DD until I got pregnant again, and would still be wearing her at 20 months old if I wasn't so giantly pregnant. I got mine from BabyEtte on Etsy. Her wovens are beautiful and less expensive than others I could find. She's a mom of 5 who's babyworn for 13 years, and she's also a business member of the BCIA (Baby Carrier Industry Alliance) and the ASTM (Standards & Materials) and in compliance with the CPSIA. I felt pretty good about ordering from her, and supporting a fellow mama businesswoman.
