I'm torn between getting a Moby wrap or a Maya ring sling. I'm new to baby wearing and have only used the Ergo. What should I buy?

I loved the Moby but was only able to use it til LO was about 13-15lbs, after that I didn't find it supportive enough. So at this point, I would probably go for a ring sling, which you'll get more use out of long term!

Ditto ^^. If you want to wrap, a woven (not stretchy like the moby) would be better for the long term.

I say both lol. I loved our Sleepy Wrap (similar to Moby) for the NB phase and plan to use it again with this LO, although at the time it was our only carrier. We later (after having an Ergo) added a WCRS and I love it! I still use it now with DS at 30 lbs in a RUB so you get a lot of use out of one.
If you can only get one carrier the RS would give you more wear and carrying options down the road.
ETA: Your LO is past the NB phase?! RS all the way in that case

Neither! I would get a RS over a wrap, but wouldn't get a Maya. I'm just not a fan of the padding.

I reeeallly disliked the Moby. I think I only used it twice. If I have another LO I'm definitely getting a ring sling of some sort.

I think they all have different great points, but I'd say I got more use out of the ring sling once she was older (hip hold FTW!) and more use out of the moby when she was smaller. I like the security I felt when she was all wrapped up in the Moby, but the ring sling took up much less space (eg. I could throw it in my purse) once she was older and could support her head/neck.

@Weagle: Ring slings confuse the hell out of me! I researched other kinds but I just don't understand enough to order. I feel like I'm reading Japanese. Lol.

@rahlyrah: Dude, I was totally terrified by ring slings too. I went to a babywearing workshop hosted locally by a babywearing expert and she actually had one there for me to try and showed me how to use it. I bought it then and there and haven't looked back. I think if you have someone knowledgable that can help you through the first few tries it's much less scary.

@Weagle: @rahlyrah: I have a maya AND a moby! LOVE them both, but for different things.
I do agree with hilsy that the moby isn't conducive for longevity of use. It is a stretchy knit so once my son was 6 months it would stretch out and I'd have to tighten/re-tie it. But the RS worked just as well while he was an infant AND a toddler! I actually really appreciate the padding on the maya RS. Now that J is a toddler though, after an hour in the RS my shoulder hurts, so I prefer the beco. But a woven wrap would probably be a good compromise between the moby and the beco - it would be great for infants and toddlers. Also you could do back carries with a woven, but not the RS/moby (you could but it's really difficult).

I think if you get a linen or conversion you can't go wrong... If its sized, get whatever Tshirt size you wear. There are lots of great brands! I just don't prefer padded slings.

I think a babywearing meeting would be helpful! There's a Babywearing International of DMV and C. MD.

I'm not sure of which is better of the two as I have neither but I do love my Chimparoo ring sling, hip carry is amaze balls! I also have a sling sisters wrap which is good for cooler weather but too heavy for summer. If you get a wrap I say go for a woven they are awesome!
