So my friend won a trip to Hawaii and wants to take us. Yay right? I am due with #2 end of July and trip would probably be Oct/Nov. I am not worried about travelling with a baby but more the toddler. We went to Hawaii last year and she didn't sleep on the flight and was a crank the entire trip. It was hard! So we are unsure if we want to try again. We would have to pay for my DH flight but all accom costs should be covered. So I see three options.... 1) The whole family goes, 2) I go with just the baby or 3) We leave the toddler at home with the grandparents and go relax.

I say take some time and relax! Maybe you could take a small family trip somewhere with your toddler for extra family time another time of the year. Enjoy some well-deserved relaxing time!

How long is the trip? How long is the flight? How old was LO1 last time and how old will they be this time? Are you going to the same island you did before or a different one? Does your friend have kids?

I would go as a whole family. We have been to Hawaii twice with our son (he was 8m the first time, 20m the second time) and he loved it, as we did!

@birdofafeather: The trip is 5 days and the flight is 9 hours from Australia. She was 2.5 last time and will be 3.5 this time. And same Island, which is part of the hesitation.
@lamariniere: 5 days and the jet lag factor is huge, travelling from Australia.

I would take the whole family. I think 3.5 is a great age to travel with, and a 3 month old baby is the best age to travel with when traveling with kids!

I've found 3.5 a super easy age to travel with - the 18 month to 3 stage sucks, but my 3.5 has been a dream on long flights. I wouldn't not take the toddler just because of that.
I'd go as a whole family and since it's a beach type/relaxing holiday, I wouldn't worry too much about the jet lag! Enjoy!

If your friend is bringing kids I would bring the 3yo. If not I would just bring the baby. DH and I did a weekend with just LO2 recently and it felt like such a nice break. We were able to spend so much time with our friends.

then EVERYONE will have a good time(but personally I like taking my son on all my trips, even when he is a PITA)

I guess it depends...some of the things I really want to do in Hawaii is go on a copter ride and go on a volcano hike...not really kid friendly for my specific kid.

I would seriously consider leaving my toddler behind but in reality would most likely bring the whole family.
