Dinner times are the hardest part of the day and when I "yell" at my kids the most. They play around while eating and take FOREVER to finish. It's so annoying. 
And sometimes they make fun of me when I tell them that I'll take their food away (which I have done!) if they continue to play around and not eat. They repeat what I say. How rude! I get so fed up and then I have to separate them and put whoever was misbehaving and not listening to my rules off to the side on his own to eat facing the other direction. Usually, this is my oldest b/c he just can't remember anything I ask him to do, even if it's 1 minute ago. Often times I feel like they think I'm a joke until they find out what happens when they repeatedly don't listen. *Sigh* I hate being the meanie mommy, especially when their dad is overseas (again, yep!) for work and this time for almost 4 weeks!

I think Xander's younger than yours (he's 19 months), but he definitely thinks I'm a joke. Whenever I'm scolding him or telling him to stop doing something, he just laughs at me and continues on. He only takes me seriously when I'm physically removing him from the situation (and even then he sometimes thinks that's funny) or holding him for a timeout!

LO literally will tell me, "That's funny" when I am scolding him for misbehaving. So yes, lol, he thinks I'm a joke sometimes!

I find my younger DD is following in DS's foot steps too! The talking back drives me crazy as well.

Definitely. Especially when I'm trying to discipline him, or even if I'm upset. I cried in front of him once, and he laughed in my face. Sigh.

Yes, we are dealing with this and it's infuriating to me. He laughs at us when we try to discipline and it's so frustrating! I hope it soon passes for all of us!

A joke, as in, not serious and not following through? Yeah, my son thought that, until I busted out a timer and cardboard box after he wouldn't pick up his toys.

@Adira: Yeah, same here. My boys also do that too! I often have to physically carry my youngest to time out. He will not stay unless I stand 5 feet away back facing him while he cries. I used to put my oldest in his play yard for time out so he won't run away; but b/c we moved I ended up giving it to a relative having twins (they could use another one) so my youngest never got to use it to learn that he has to stay put while I'm in the other room.

@Mamaof2: Omg, don't get me started on talking about. It used to just be my oldest but now it's the both of them. I know with patience I can teach them not to... so I'm patiently teaching them now. VERY patiently... like talk to me like that again and I will take your transformers or airplane away (their fav toys at the moment).

@looch: Yep! LOL! I do the same thing except I use a big bag! I recently collected ALL of their favorite toys of the moment because my oldest said, "go ahead!" And then he wanted it back but didn't get it back for a couple of days. See if you'll talk to me like that again! And he only got it back b/c he was "good" meaning he ate faster for dinner the next day. They both did. I guess if they want something they will work hard. If not, they don't care. I need to help them to care all the time!

@blackbird: Sounds like you're hitting the terrible twos early. My oldest hit it at 3 and at almost 5 it's getting better. My youngest started at birth. I have mean mommy pants too!

@Dandelion: What's your BIG punishment? Mine is timeout or my oldest lose privileges (or both!) and my youngest gets time out since it still works well on him. He becomes an angel after and does everything I say. Why not just do it the first time I ask you? Because it's their job to not listen! Wah...

Yep. Sometimes, when I'm telling her and her BFF not to do something, they will dissolve into fits of cackling laughter together. I have not mastered my serious face get, apparently.
