We don't walk them together. I try, but it's always a mess. So I'll either let the dog out back or wait until my hubby gets home so we can all go on a walk, one with the dog and the other with the baby.

@mediagirl: It's a lot easier that way! Especially because if I'm trying to get my LO to nap she doesn't like to stop, and the dog will always stop to scratch, sniff, poo, etc. so my LO starts to fuss.

Before the baby, our puppy was taught to walk on my right hand side. With the stroller we have a carabiner that I attach to the handle of the stroller and her leash. That way she's always attached and I can hang on to her leash if she needs to be on a shorter one. I've also "ran over" her a couple of times when she crosses in front of the stroller to make her realize I mean business. It works so far.

@LivsMama: He might be trying to race your stroller... kind of like he's showing it that he's the alpha and he's going to be in front. My dogs do that to each other when I walk them - they rally for who will be an inch ahead of the other.

Sounds like my dog is badly trained... but then again he did fail his doggy school when he was a puppy. We still love him though

We did a lot of work on proper leash-training long before having kids. DH bikes and skateboards with the dog running alongside him, so the dog is very well-versed in the importance of walking directly on the right-hand side, never crossing in front, etc.

A really short leash! Or no leash at all if thats an option.

@skibobrown: Me too! When I worked at a bank, one lady would come in and ALWAYS had her dog in a stroller!

@mediagirl: Our pup was also a rescue, two owners brought him back before my husband took him. He was an AWFUL puppy. He was sooo crazy, my husband had a really hard time with him but refused to give him up. So compared to that, he's an angel now Might help that he's on prozac....

Ok, I'm sorry, but as someone with a distinctly dog-unfriendly dog, I have to say that I hate... HATE... it when people walk their dogs without a leash. I know that most people probably only do this if their dog is reliably uninterested in interacting with other people or dogs, but it just makes me really uncomfortable. I don't care how nice the other dog is, if it comes up to mine, there's a distinct chance that my dog will start a fight (he is a champ at ignoring anybody who is ignoring him, and won't even spare a glance at dogs on the other side of a fence, but he is NOT ok with having other dogs sniffing him and all up in his personal space). When we walk by people whose dogs are on a leash and under control, we never have a problem, but I have no way of knowing if your unleashed dog is going to meander over to greet mine, and it freaks me out. And before I had a kid with me, I could always pick up my 37-pound dog and prevent interaction if that's what it came to, but that's not an option if I've got a baby in an ergo strapped to my chest.
