What were the first words out of your mouth after your LO was born?
Mine were, "I feel so empty."
I kind of feel bad that they weren't about my glorious child or anything, but whatever. Ha.

"Oh, it's okay"
Trying to console LO since she was screaming.

"my baby" I said that over and over for a while. I couldn't see her because it was a c-section but I could hear her crying and it was the most wonderful sound in all the world

@autumnlove: haha yes.
I remember feeling like, "holy sh-- did that really just happen?!??" I don't know what actual words made it out.

I don't remember. I think "go to him, be with him." (To my husband-- since DS was taken to a bassinet across the OR to be checked before he was brought to me.)

"Hello little dude, I'm your Mommy, and this is your Daddy. Happy Birth Day."
pomelo / 5178 posts
With DD I said, "Wow, I feel so much better!" And with DS I asked if he was a boy or a girl.

Hmm thinking about it again, it might have been more like "go with him, I will be ok" bc the l and d nurse dropped my numb leg to grab L; there was meconium in his amniotic fluid and he needed to be worked on. But the "empty" statement was the first thing I remember clearly.

"He's crying! He's crying!" (because I knew that meant he was breathing)
grapefruit / 4056 posts
@dagret: Yep, he is all good, milestones all on time so far! I had an emergency c-section because he was not doing well, so we knew it would be dicey.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
I'm pretty sure I said, "She's beautiful!!" Then I yelled at my husband to go be with her since they had to take her away to make sure she was okay.
@dagret: stupid meconium. Same here.

I think it was something along the lines of "I KNEW IT!" when my husband told me it was a girl.

"Is he okay?" They delayed my delivery just a bit because they were worried about a possible cord issue and almost called in the other doctors. Instead, he popped out screaming, no issues, just a happy screaming baby.

"Is it a boy or girl?" I had an emergency c section and he was taken to the NICU by the time I woke up in recovery, not how we imagined being team green would go!
pear / 1609 posts
I said "holy s*** I just had a baby!!" The entire NICU team was in there and they all started laughing at me along with my husband and doctor. Then I appologized for cursing haha.

with Wagon Jr: "oh my god! oh my god!" over and over.
with LMW: I'm not really sure, but probably something like "she's out? Seriously?" I didn't believe them because it was so easy to push her out!

i don't remember doing this but on the video that my husband took all i hear is me saying "i did it!" over and over. apparently i was pretty proud of myself. i feel bad that my first words weren't about my little one.

I love this thread. I've been thinking about what I'm going to say - probably something like "holy sh**!!" We'll know soon

Is he breathing? He's crying!
Go look at him.
SO: no you're more important, you need me.....as I am about to pass out on the operating table.
Me: go look at him. NOW. Make sure that he's ok.
Is he ok? Is anything wrong with him?
I hated not being able to see him.

I think it was Is she really a girl?? I had a fear the ultrasound was wrong.

"What's happening? Is he ok?" He wasn't breathing when he came out, so he was taken over to the little NICU set up in the room.

"Is it a boy or a girl?!?!?!"
and later I said
"Where's my medal?" (unmedicated birth humor)

I think I said oh my gosh, oh my gosh for DD and for DS I think I said Hi Baby. Wish I had said something more interesting!

I don't remember, but I think I said "hello my love" or something like that when they brought him over to me to see. I don't think I said anything right away. My husband was with him from the moment he came out and was calling out to me that he was huge and cute and I could hear him crying. I remember thinking that he had a really hoarse voice, but I don't think I said that outloud until much later.

I'm gonna throw up.
And then I puked all over the nurse who was trying to hand me a tub to puke in.

@MsMini: Not glad that you had to go through this, but glad someone else was in my situation!
Mine were, "Why isn't he breathing? Someone answer me!"
