My in laws want to do a big family trip next winter, due to my bil's work it needs to be over the winter and since we live in Michigan we'd strongly prefer somewhere warm! We have a toddler and both we and my bil and sil are trying for another so it would need to be very family friendly. Cruises are usually a hit. I think we need to stick to North America ish.

Hawaii is great! But it can get $$$. San Diego would work too for a cheaper, but cooler, option. Even Phoenix is nice that time of year and has fun family activities.

It tends to rain a lot in Hawaii during that time so I would avoid it. San Diego would be fun for the family!

@Mrs. Microscope: ooh, good options! I'd love to do Hawaii but I'm guessing between the cost and the long flight times with little ones it's likely to be out. San Diego sounds awesome though and I'd love to do Phoenix and the surrounding area.
@Andrea: Thanks for the tip! Hawaii is probably a once or twice in a lifetime trip for us so I don't want to use it up during rainy season!
@magnolia: They just went last year so I'm thinking they want to branch out a bit, and I'm secretly gunning for warmer than that!

I would do Phoenix - Scottsdale area and do Sedona, maybe Grand Canyon or lake Powell. Southwest seems to still be safe.

Bermuda is a great, close, Zika free option....but in December it won't be great for ocean swimming (the hotels' beach clubs will be closed). However, there would still be pools and plenty of activities
