Go by what your doctor says. I would call them and ask them about your concerns. My doctor wants me to fast, but my friends doctor didn't make her. They might set a different threshold for women that eat vs women who don't.

This is my third pregnancy with my third OB/GYN and they all say different things. My first two did not have my fast at all. This last OB/BYN said fast for two hours before the 1 hour test. I have failed 2 of the 3 one hour glucose tests, one fasting and one not. I guess the moral of my story is, it didn't matter for me! You can try and eat low carb and fast a little before, if you would like.

On a side note, I have also heard that the closer you are to 28 weeks the more likely you are to fail, and since you are 26 you will hopefully pass with flying colors (with my most recent one I was over 28 weeks)

Mine was a fasting. I would die if it were that late in the day...I think mine was around 9 am.

Do not drink oj four hours beforehand like I did! I failed the one hour by a few points but passed the three hour with flying colors. I really think it was the oj. I didn't realize the test would be that day so regret not cutting out sugar the morning of.

For my first 1 hour test I fasted & got nauseous off the orange drink they gave me. My test was at 9am & I passed. Because of the twins I got tested twice. My second 1 hour test I had 3 eggs for breakfast at 6:30, ate my 4 Reese PB cups at 7:30 (I got to choose that instead of nasty drinks but had to down it in 2 min & after 2 1/2 cups it wasn't fun anymore), had my test at 8:30 & passed with flying colors.

I have been on Metformin for over 2 years so that may have something to do with why my levels were so awesome.

I don't see why two smaller higher protein meals would hurt. Have your higher amount of carbs in the morning with breakfast. You have to be able to eat for your baby. That BS about not drinking water is nothing but BS, DRINK YOUR WATER.

I had to fast with the one hour test, failed, and then had to take the three hour test. I had to fast with that one and I passed. I would call your doctor's office to double check.

I agree with @ElbieKay: I did my appt when DH was working. He would have hated sitting there and waiting.

I had mine at 10am, but my doc told me not to fast and just to make sure I didn't eat within two hours of drinking the drink. I had scrambled eggs at 7, drank the drink at 9 and had the test at 10. It worked great! I don't know if fasting that long would be good for you or your baby...thats a long stretch without eating while pregnant! Also ive never heard of someone saying not to drink water, that sounds nuts to me

I didn't have to fast for the one hour but I had to for the three hour. I'd go by what your doctor says.

I would say go with what the doc say but I have took two one in around 15 weeks and one two weeks ago around 25 weeks and both of mines was one hour non fasting

Follow your doc's advice. My doc advised me to have a light protein packed breakfast and try to avoid carbs and sugar (like juice). So I had one scrambled egg (luckily my appt was first thing in the morning). I passed the test.

@Danizaur: that's good. The glucose ones were actually the only appts I didn't have DH or anyone else with me. They weren't even at my dr's office. It was super boring and to be honest, I wasn't great company because I was so hungry and thirsty. I didn't drink water with the one hour, but they let me drink water with the three hour test. Thank goodness!!!

My midwife wisely sprung the 1 hour test on my centering group, so none of us could game the system. I think that doing anything other than what they suggest is a bad plan, honestly. What if you eat way differently than normal and it masks a case of GD? That could turn out really poorly.

My doctor has me fast. Someone else I know was told to eat a light breakfast. Id say go with what the doc says

I did not fast. I was high risk with twins and had a higher likelihood of developing gestational diabetes, but I passed with flying colors!

Don't eat toast, or any carbs. I passed the 1 hr last time after eating some eggs, and was told to eat the same before the test again this time.

Mainly I'd avoid sugary food and carbs, but heaven's sake- please don't stop drinking water! Avoiding drinking water won't do you or your baby any favors.

My doctor didn't tell me to fast so I didn't and I passed the one hour.

I think I couldn't eat anything after around 10 at night and nothing in the morning but water.

My doctor scheduled mine (1 hr test) for Jan 6th, and she gave me strict instructions NOT to fast for it. She even said if anyone tells me to fast to ignore them, and that no pregnant woman should be made to fast unless medically necessary. Honestly, you should eat as you normally would, and not try to game the test. If you've developed GD, your doc needs to know so he/she can advise you on how to adjust your lifestyle and eating habits.
