I thought this article was pretty funny. It reminded me of all of the things I coveted (and bought) growing up.
I had 15..
How many things on the list did you have?

haha funny! I remember a lot of my peers having most of that - but my parents definitely weren't into letting me have things just because it was trendy. I did have two AG dolls but that's pretty much it from the list.

Um... 3. The pink Razr, Nintendo and the canopy bed.
We were poor and I was goth, so I didn't really buy in to all this stuff when I was younger.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
Lol yeah I had like 3, the canopy bed, the American Girl doll, and a fancy pencil case. My parents weren't into letting me have too much stuff!

2...pink razr and the nintendo, lol
I didn't really want most of that stuff, really. But, I've always been an oddball

2 - the razr and the nintendo. we weren't poor but we certainly weren't well off, and my parents weren't into indulging us on basically anything non-academic, haha.
bananas / 9118 posts
None, but I was born 6 hours into Generation Y (I identify more with Gen X) and we were quite poor. I would have killed for an American Girl doll, I was in love with Samantha, but I only got the books
nectarine / 2690 posts
Um, 3. The nail polish, a tv in my room, and a Nintendo. I wanted the Barbie car, Barbie bike, and dollhouse so bad though!
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
I had 6.
@lemondrop: I'm still bitter that my mom refused to buy me an American Girl doll. My daughter shares a name with one of the dolls and she will getting one ASAP! : )
bananas / 9118 posts
@MamaMoose: lol, I think it is why I'm obsessed with the adorable Disney princess dolls that are similar in size- I want Belle so bad, and will probably end up getting her whether I have a girl or not! At least these are a little more affordable!
papaya / 10570 posts
Oh no, I had none of them!!! I wonder if, perhaps, I was a little too old.... maybe I'm a late generation X?
pomegranate / 3917 posts
I had never heard of American Girl dolls until my Mom went to NYC last August and saw them and wanted to buy one for C!
I had #8 (Nintendo) and #9 (Dear Diary), and then #17, buuut not until a few years ago and I still have them? lol....seems weird to be on the list with Dear Diary.
blogger / persimmon / 1220 posts
@Cherrybee: I think I'm a late Gen X too (early '80s) because I only had 2 on the list.
pomegranate / 3729 posts
3, we were broke! Fancy pencil case, dear diary, and the pink razr phone (although mine was light pink).
admin / watermelon / 14210 posts
3 - the nintendo, pencil box and a tv when i was in high school. looking at that list i am closer to gen x maybe!
pomegranate / 3329 posts
Pencil boxes, I loved those so much!!! Why don't they make those anymore??
I had 4
1)Nintendo
2) TV in my room
3) Pencil boxes
4) Pink razr (but I was married at that time)
I may also be closer to Gen x.

3 - nintendo, pencil box, and the dear diary. I had a razr, but it wasn't pink.
GOLD / papaya / 10206 posts
I had 6:
Nintendo, Dear Diary, TV in my room, Phone line w/ machine, Moto Razr, and Tiffany necklace.... but I got that as a gift for standing in my BFF's wedding, not as a teenager!
pineapple / 12793 posts
Seven, I'm a late gen-x. I think my younger sisters are 20/20.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
I only had two! I had the Kirsten American Girl Doll and a Nintendo (shared among the 4 of us siblings). I'm on the cusp of Generation Y so I just consider myself as X.
pear / 1992 posts
Looks like I had quite a few of these? I had an American Girl doll (that I saved my allowance FOREVER to buy), a Dear Diary (I think it was a knockoff?), a TV in my bedroom, my own phone line and answering machine (my line was also the internet line - a thing of the past for sure), and we had a nintendo.
I agree with the commenter who said that GellyRoll pens should be included on the list!
I was born in '85 but I still feel like the list was strangely spaced. Like, Dear Diary/canopy bed and Juicy tracksuits/Uggs are not of the same generation for me at all. But I guess one was popular when I was in elementary school, the others popular when I was in high school?

Awesome. I never had the big fancy toys but I did have a Nintendo! I was in High School when Baby G watches came out and bought myself one. I also had a baby pink Razr phone and the top left fake Prada bag (bought on Ebay).
I loved Daria.

I had Nintendo, fancy pencil case, Dear Diary, TV in my room, & phone line (but no answering machine)
I wanted an American Doll sooo bad, but never got it. I already plan on getting my LO one if she wishes. It was something I was so jealous of my friends having!

I love the BARF for the Tiffany bracelet because that is exactly how I felt about them bsck then.
Gen Y- what years? I don't some of those items cracking the cool list where I lived.
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
@Mrs Checkers: @Cherrybee: I'm early '80s too and I thought I would be considered Gen Y but looking at that list, think I might be closer to the tail end of X.
clementine / 916 posts
@lindseykaye: I think they're supposed to be in chronological order.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I laughed at the BARF too! I felt it applied to most of the items, anyway. Does it seem like things get girlier, the younger you get in the generations?
I'm actually surprised Nintendo was on the GenY list...it should really be for GenX! I'm a late genX and had SNES.
clementine / 916 posts
@Freckles: I think we got our Nintendo when I was 3 (1989). The only games I remember are duck hunt and some racing game where you used a pad. Super Nintendo was way cooler. Haha.
clementine / 769 posts
I had 6. I still have my American Girl doll (Addy) and the books and clothes.
persimmon / 1331 posts
@lindseykaye: agreed, strangely grouped for sure! I only had an American Girl and a Dear Diary. I was the 4th kid, so a lot of my stuff was had me downs and there was NO way my parents would buy a lot of that stuff!
clementine / 769 posts
@LaineysMom: lol that duck game used to make me so mad. I liked Sega more.
coconut / 8430 posts
I had the pencil case and a Nintendo! I think I might be a late Gen-Xer too.
clementine / 916 posts
@FancyGem: I was too young to really play.. I just remember going up to the tv (2 inches away) and killing all the ducks. Haha. I was happy when they brought it back with the wii. Sega was the only console we didn't have! Sonic!
grapefruit / 4817 posts
I'm too old for this list, I think, and I'm an early 80s baby. The only thing I coveted was the American Girl doll, but we were way too poor for a $100 doll. I don't think they were even popular in my area until I was in 5th grade, anyways.
