When I was little I received the American Girl catalog and I would spend hours and hours looking through it. I borrowed all the books from the library many times and read all the stories. I begged and begged my parents for one of the dolls. Finally my mom agreed to pay for half of one if I saved up enough for half.
I very quickly saved up enough and I ordered my Samantha doll. I even saved up extra and got the accessory set too (her hat, purse, locket, handkerchief, and penny). I barely even played with her because I was so afraid of ruining her. I got a doll stand and displayed her proudly.
After Lil Miss Wagon was born, my mom brought my Samantha doll so I can give it to LMW! I'm so happy the company not only survived but has grown so much, and I can't wait to not only hand down my Samantha doll, but also do the same that my mom did-- offer to pay for half as soon as she's saved up for half. Only this time, we can make a day of getting the doll by visiting the store, having lunch in the cafe, etc! We can even bring my Samantha to the store to have her curls re-set in the doll salon.
This all sounds a bit silly, but isn't it what being a girly girl is all about?
Do you have an American Girl doll? Will you get one for your daughter?
