@sorrycharlie: No freaking out! It's a normal anatomical variation and many women have it (about 1/2 the mamas on the May babies thread!) I would just ask your OB about it for details. I have one too. it can *delay* when you start feeling movement, though I felt movement at 20 weeks and really regular movement around 21 weeks, so I don't think it was late for me.

I have one too and apparently it causes many problems for the ultrasound techs since they always comment on it. My husband has yet to be able to feel the baby and I'm at 25 weeks. Hopefully he will be able to soon!

I never knew I had an anterior placenta until the last ultrasound when the tech mentioned it. I didn’t feel movement until later than many (almost 24 weeks), but now I feel lots and lots and lots of movement, all day long (and, alllllllllllllllllllllll night long). She is especially active after dinner when we’re relaxing on the sofa, and my husband feels her kicking around every night.

@sorrycharlie: Like I said, I feel a lot of movement all day/night, but when I was watching her swimming around and dancing on the last ultrasound it was clear that I only feel about 50% or so of her total movements, so don't worry!

Agreed: it is such not a big deal that my OB never mentioned it either.

(I found out when I had kidney pain and they were asking if I knew where my placenta was to see if it might have been a placenta thing.....then they looked it up on my ultrasound and told me). I had suspected that I was anterior because I felt my movements later than most. If your placenta was also low, that would be a problem, but they would have mentioned that.

I'm a bit worried about back-labour with the baby facing the wrong way (I googled too!) but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Yeah, no problems delivering here either, and I felt him kicking me plenty!

I have an anterior placenta too! I didn't even find out until a month or two ago (I am 35 weeks). Doctor is VERY confident that I can still do a natural vaginal birth and my hubby feels movement ALL THE TIME.

As long as the placenta is high enough (as in, you don't have both an anterior placenta AND placenta previa), it shouldn't present an issue. My OB isn't worried about it at all - she basically said it's a pillow that will help cushion some of the blows
I've read it can affect baby's presentation during labor (anterior or posterier), but I don't think it's a HUGE issue. It just might mean you have more back labor if she's posterior.
In other words - no need to fret!

I had an anterior placenta. (It actually was a good thing for our CVS procedure). I felt movement before 20 wks but it took a few weeks before DH felt a kick. I did have some difficulties and complications with labor and delivery (head was just enough at the wrong angle to make it hard to push out, long back labor, etc) but I don't think any of that was related to the placenta placement.

@red_seattle: interesting to read about your difficulties with labour, I too had an anterior placenta and had a long labour with LO's head being at the wrong angle and some back labour.

@shopaholic: I didn't have a sunny side up delivery - no back labor or anything. So it's not always the case!

I have one too. I felt movement around 19 weeks, DH around 23 weeks.

I had one and I felt movement at 18 weeks and I had the easiest delivery. I had an epidural but I didn't have any pressure or back labor. I didn't know it was time to push until the doctor told me and I pushed for less than 2 min.
