Heyyyy all. So Liv developed a pretty nasty stuffy nose over the weekend while we were visiting my parents. No cough, no sneeze, just a stuffy, runny, crusty nose. She was irritable today (lack of sleep) so the nanny brought her into the pedi just to make sure it wasnt in her chest at all. They called me and the pedi wanted to give Liv 2 shots (one today and one tomorrow) of antibiotic "just in case she has an ear infection" because her ear was "maybe a little red." So I asked the doctor, "you want to give her a preventative shot of antibiotics?" and he replied, "Well it COULD be a treatment. She might have an ear infection." I declined and asked for an Rx for an oral prescription so I could monitor the situation for another day or 2 before starting the course of antibiotics. Everything in me said to say no to the shot as its probably unnecessary. Im just surprised at how nonchalant they were about it given all of the antibiotic-resistant strains that are emerging because of just issuing antibiotics for everything. Its not like the shot will do anything for her cold - thats a virus,

This surprised me. I do vaccinate her, so its not that Im anti-vax. I just think that a "maybe yes maybe no" approach doesnt warrant two shots without some further observation.

Would you have given your child the shot?
