Between Charlie's school break and Olive's daycare closing, we have 12 days in a row without childcare. So much for getting any work done in December!!
Any working parents not have childcare over Christmas break? How are you managing it?

Ya, daycare is closed between Xmas-Jan 2! I'm not sure how we will handle it...I requested and got the days off (months ago)but staffing has changed and now I need to work.

That is a lot of days off! Is that their normally scheduled break? Do you have to pay tuition during that time as well?

Our daycare closes from December 24-Jan 1st...luckily my MIL is off during that time too and will be babysitting for us when we need it!

Our daycare closes from Dec. 23-Jan. 2 We'll be gone the 23 & 24th. My parents are coming back with us to watch them the 26th & 27th, and my in-law are coming for NYE, so they'll watch them on the 30th & 31st. We're off the 1st, so hopefully that will have us covered!

Our daycare is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, then they have early close at 3pm on New Year's Eve and closed New Year's Day. Thankfully, since we both plan on working through the holidays!

Ours closes early the 24th (noon) and the 31st (3:00) and is closed on the 25th, 26th, and 1st. I already have the 25th and 1st off, so my plan is to take the week of Christmas (23rd-27th) off and I'll leave work early on the 31st.

@looch: Yah we pay for the full month. They're taking off December 23 - January 1 this year... last year Olive still had a nanny though, so it wasn't too bad.

@mrbee: ugg! we're in the same boat..we're gone the 12th through the 27th, but we're still paying for daycare during that time.
And on top of that, since I am a contractor, I won't get paid!

Our school is closed 12/23-1/1. We are taking the entire time off, except for two days where we will ask family to watch the kids.

@looch: As a business owner, I'm in the same boat with no pay when I don't work!!
I've never lusted after a "real job" like I have since having kids... paid vacation, benefits, other people who can pick up the slack when you're busy? Sign me up!!

Yep, our daycare is closed from December 24-Jan. 1. We're visiting the inlaws from before that until the 26th. After that, we have a day or so turnaround at home before LO stays with my parents for a few days while we work. So lots of traveling, but my parents are watching LO, so DH and I get to be adults for a bit.

@mrbee: Do you get invoiced per week or monthly? I need to tell our daycare owner when LO will be gone to not send an invoice for the week prior to the 24th.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@cascademom: I don't think there are invoices? We just pay at the beginning of each month.

@mrbee: Interesting. My daycare owner uses a service/website where it's just debited from our checking account because we provided the information to it. It's pretty nice. I believe that the daycare lady initiates the invoices, so I'm thinking that we can request no invoice for the weeks he's with us.

@cascademom: Sounds like a great setup! Ours doesn't work that way alas...

Our daycare is closed 12/24-1/2; we still have to pay regular tuition. It sucks but I understand it.. I had to take off work since we don't have family in the area. I have the vacation days available and am sort of glad I have an excuse to use them. I was fortunately able to get coworkers to cover for me. If her daycare had been open, I probably would be working more because I wouldn't have wanted to ask others to cover.

I'm a teacher so I'm off. But our babysitter would be around if we needed her as far as I know.
