I have a becco Gemini that I have not used much. After 2 kids I realize I'm just not as much of a baby wearer as I thought I would be. However we are going to Disney this holiday and I am tempted to try wearing 15 mo old DS on my back or maybe side carry, mainly to help with naps while we are in the park. Anyone wear their toddler LO? Any tips? I have never worn him side or back carry, only front.

definitely back carry. it's easier on your back. olive is so tiny that i can still front carry her at 14 months, but back carry is easier.

I wore Lil CB when he first came home to help with attachment. I wore front-facing form bonding purposes and it wasn't too bad, I actually preferred it to carrying him on my back.

@Mrs. Bee: is it hard to back carry? It just seems scary to maneuver LO into the right position, and then how do you keep an eye on them if you can't see what they are doing?
@Mrs. Cowgirl: I will be doing a lot of walking but I will probably start with the front carry and see how I do since thats what im most comfortable wih. I think he would nap best like that anyway!

We toddler wear! (But lala grew up in babywearing). We can still carry her on the front, but back is definitely easier.

@T-Mom: yeah, I think it also helps shield some of the noise. Disney can be overwhelming for a toddler!

@T-Mom: even charlie fell asleep in a back carry when he was older than 15 months. olive also falls asleep better in a back carry.
my back hurts way too much to front carry for longer than 30 min. i've only done it a handful of times, but it's been really effective for getting them to nap!

@T-Mom: you'd be surprised! My nanny mom carries her toddler on her back all the time and he always falls asleep like that! When DH carries DS on his back, he falls asleep too.
My nanny mom still carries her 19 mos old on her back, and my sister carries her 14 mos old - although she said he's starting to get really heavy after long periods of time.
I say just trying it. I would too!

Just used my Gemini for Disney with my 18 month old. We did all 3 positions. Front is easier to nurse in and back is better for sleeping (not as much to see). I also wore my friends 2 year old on my back. Front does hurt my back after a while but it is so convinient to wear them. We had 3 kids, 2 strollers, a beco and an ergo.

@Mrs. Pen: he was 15 months. Yup, it definitely helped, especially when we were out of the house. It also helped send the message that he couldn't just be picked up by anyone (ie extended family)

Oh, if they fall asleep on your back to have to take them off to do rides. At least one ride let him on on my front.

I am debating whether to bring two strollers or one for the 2 kids... -
@T-Mom: Take the double stroller. The two singles was hard when one person was doing something (getting fast passes) and another had the kids. Since we were friends we didn't have a double. But if we do it again, I'm gonna get the connector for umbrellas strollers that makes them a double.

I stopped at 7 months, but recently realized that I'm a lot stronger now, and started again at 15 months from time to time. My husband carries her in a frame carrier whenever they're together. He'll do that for years I think.

@brownie: I actually don't have a double stroller. DD is 4 and is fine waking usually, but she usually still naps in the afternoon. I wanted to buy a sit n stand type stroller but DH thinks it's overkill... I may just bring the umbrella and let them fight over it!

@T-Mom: He loves it! We go for walks and hikes all around, they love to explore and poke around the neighborhood. Whenever we're all together, he's carrying her in that. My stroller never leaves the car.

The other day at 16 months my daughter went and got her Ergo out and asked to be carried. A side carry would be easiest but I can still do a front carry for short periods and getting in and out of the back carry really isnt' that hard (but practice first at home).

Back carry can be daunting! My LO is small for her age (less than 21 lbs at 17 months), but she's tall/long, so front carry can get a little awkward still... So we do back carry sometimes. How I think of it is ... I just start off with baby on my hip, then I bend forward a little so she can slide over with the carrier onto my back, and lastly, i put the straps on like a backpack. I have the Gemini too; YouTube helped!
Btw, would you consider renting a double at Disney? I think I've seen those there... But I haven't been in a long while, so I could be wrong.
