I work with a couple different government agencies and certain functions of my job can't be done now that the government is shutdown. I'm still working but I have to put a lot of daily tasks on hold. 
Is anyone else here affected? Anyone forced to go on furlough?

My husband is a federal employee and thought he'd be affected by the furlough. He found out yesterday that his department has enough funds from last year to cover essential employees, so they won't be furloughed UNLESS the department runs out of money before the lapse ends.
Unfortunately, the admin person who blasted the email was furloughed

I work at a state park. We are still in business but our phones are flooded with calls asking if we are still open.

I'm a financial advisor so I'm affected by clients freaking out. But that's about it.

My husband is a federal employee, but his agency funding does not come out of the federal budget. The shutdown will not affectnhim.

We have quite a few friends who are furloughed. My husband worked for congress for many years & his former co-workers (and good friends) are furloughed.

Our townhouse is under agreement - out buyer is an FHA buyer and we close in 20 days --- as of right now, the condo portion of FHa is not functioning

Yep, DH is furloughed, as are over half of our friends (we live in the DC area, so no surprise there). I'm having to do some meeting cancelling and rearranging because I work with a bunch of feds, but at least I'm still getting my normal paycheck. DH and his colleagues are not hopeful about getting back pay for the shutdown. DH ended up escaping earlier furloughs due to the sequester this summer, but we have lots of friends who didn't, and it's pretty rough on them, especially the couples where both work for the same agency and were furloughed over the summer and are now off again due to the shutdown.

My dad is currently on furlough. It's not ideal but he and my mom will get by. That's not true for everyone, though. An administrative assistant in his office will have to withdraw money from her kids' college fund that she's been working so hard to save if this goes on for much longer. As a DC native, I know lots of people who are affected and I'm frankly furious over this whole thing. This is not ok.

I'm in the same situation as you. A lot of my job depends on approval from federal employees and now that they're gone I can't do a significant portion of my work
it's weird! and not to mention our annual reports are due the end of this month but I'm not sure what to do since they are the ones that we send them to and who review them. It's definitely bizarre, but I guess a good chance to catch up on other work!

Not yet. My husbands a govie but our base has alternative funding sources. So until this lasts a bit we won't see much more than fear. But fear is enough to have people shut their wallets, effect our house prices.

My dad works in DC (well, remotely) but I think he's classified as "essential." It won't impact him significantly as he is months away from retirement.
DH is a government contractor. He's not sure what will happen. His project is fully funded but I think his campus may shut down. We'll be ok financially for a while but we're shopping for a home. Any days he misses might significantly impact our mortgage approval. LO had pneumonia last week and I missed 4 days unpaid so we're looking at a lot of missed income from our paychecks. I'm not sure how many underwriters will forgive.

My government contract is forwarded funded for two more weeks so I'm working from home. Tomorrow I'm going to work at my coworker's house. If congress doesn't come up with something in 2 weeks time, I'll be forced to take a week of PTO and then be on unpaid leave.

@MrsKoala: we're really lucky that my DH has a good job that's not in the gov't, so we'll be okay for quite awhile. The shutdown/furlough mainly sucks for us financially because we're trying to prep for our LO's arrival and that entails a lot of new expenses (it sucks generally for a lot of other reasons, of course). Also, my agency wasn't affected by sequester furloughs during the last FY. However, I know a lot of people aren't nearly so lucky and I feel really bad for them. I'm operating under the assumption we won't get any backpay.

I'm furloughed, which eats into my small amount of paid maternity leave! I only get 8 weeks from delivery and this is smack in the middle of it, sigh.

DH is military, so yes we are. Although, not as badly as we could have been. Theres a lot still up in the air for us, especially with being overseas.

So far we are blessed to sheltered from the shut down. My dad may not get his disability or retirement money from the military depending on how long the shutdown continues.
If this isn't taken care of by the end of the month, we may have to shutter our small business. I am hoping that it isn't the case.

My husband is still working, but all of the finance/payroll people for his department have been furloughed. So he's working, but we won't get a paycheck until the shutdown ends.
I work as a librarian in a public system, and there is talk that if the shutdown lasts any real length of time, there will be cuts to our schedules (since the system relies so heavily on federal funding). We'll see what happens.

We have 10 days and then both DH and I are "working without pay." Good times.

I live in the District, so lots of my friends are furloughed. Aside from govt employees, my best friend who teaches at the Naval academy cannot teach.
I work in real estate, and we are having some challenges with deals that have VA loans, and several of the banks cannot order IRS transcripts to verify employment so closings will be late.
The whole thing is incredibly annoying. I wish they would put on their big girl panties and be adults.

Aside from the crappiness that this brings, it is refreshing seeing how generous business owners especially restos have been in DC. Jose Andres is even giving free sandwiches to furloughed folks at all his restaurants.
