I went to my annual appointment and mentioned that we were going to start TTC in January. My doctor asked me some additional questions, & questioned whether my thyroid was working correctly. Anyone else have this issue?
I went this weekend to get some blood work done, but I'm not quite sure what this means. She mentioned a possiblity of me not acutally ovulation causing major issues with us TTC. I'm a little worried & really waiting on my results. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have any reason to think your thyroid isn’t working properly? (There are some pretty obvious symptoms when its out of whack, at least most of the time).
My OB tested my thyroid as part of the first set of bloodwork done at like 6 weeks pregnant, but just because it was part of the routine tests, not because of any indication my thyroid was off. She didn't test it prior to conception.

We were having trouble TTC, so at 9 months I saw my doc about it, she was going to test my thyroid in the next few months, but we got the BFP after I lost a few pounds, so it never ended up being an issue. I do have a family history of low thyroid levels, so it was a red flag. My mom and grandma are both on thyroid meds, and find it easily controlled for them.

I didn't think so, however my OB asked me some questions and I guess my answers alarmed her enough to get my tested. I always feel cold when others feel fine, recent sudden weight gain, & my cycle is only 21-23 days apart regularly instead of the normal 28ish days.
My recent weight gain I just contributed to geting older & getting comfortable within my new marriage, I have always been cold so never htough anythign of it. The shorter periods is new when I got off my BC which is why I mentioned it to her.

There is no need to worry. Your doctor is just being thorough.
As someone who has thyroid disorders, they can be problematic when TTC. Thyroid problems can cause infertility and miscarriages when left UNTREATED. If you have irregular periods or there was some other indication that you were not ovulating, it makes sense that she requested these tests.
That being said, there is no need to worry. When I first heard of all this (and granted, I HAVE thyroid problems) I really started freaking out. At the end of the day, knowledge is power, and knowing what I will be dealing with is a whole lot better than not knowing why things may happen.

Hypothyroid runs in my family, and I've been tested for years, never showing anything but "normal range." However, after insisting that I felt off to an endocrinologist, I had her test my T3 and T4 levels, instead of just the general TSH test and sure enough, I am slightly hypo. I am on a very low dose of thyroid medication now, especially now that I'm pregnant and that can cause it to go more out of whack, and the difference it has made is pretty amazing. Now I get tested every other appointment with my OB. It's really nothing to worry about, and if your thyroid is off, you'll feel much better once it's regulated

Thank you, I feel a lot less worried now! All I could hear was "unable to conceive" and it caused me to panic & I sort of spaced out. Hopefully I hear the results soon.

Got my results back today and everything was in normal range, so my OB said we should be good to go to start TTC! She said to give her a call in 6 months if it hasn't happened yet.

That's great news! My doctor checked my thyroid before we started ttc to make sure there were no issues. I think if you go in to your general practitioner and mention ttc, they will do blood work to rule out any potential issues. At least that's what I found.

I'm so glad that I found this post. My DH and I are going TTC this month. At my annual GYN exam Dec. 23, she ran a few blood tests. I learned today that my TSH levels are at the high end of average. This concerns me because I am already at high risk because of my age (40). I will definitely be asking for a referral to an Endocrinologist tomorrow. Thanks ladies!

My doctor checked my thyroid when I had an appointment last week. I hadn't gotten my period for a couple months after going off BC. Everything came back normal though and I actually got AF on New Years eve!
I think your dr was just being thorough. Glad everything came back normal for you too!
