haha I was telling my husband that last night. It didn't take long for me to go from DINK to full on mom mode. I wasn't so annoyed at the legit fireworks going off last night because I knew they were going to happen, and that they would be over at 10. What really pissed me off was right after the legit fireworks were done, the asshats up the road started shooting off fireworks of their own. And not little bottle rockets. Big/loud ones. Which 1) we live in the freaking suburbs moron-- that is illegal. 2) please don't set my house on fire. 3) it's 10pm and my baby is trying to sleep. I want to PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE.

sigh.

Yes. LO can't sleep through them and our Labrador is so afraid she'll end up whining until we let her up in the bed.

I like them. But, with the dogs whining, and D being scared of the noise, it's impossible to enjoy them.

M is sleeping in his crib peacefully through it all, though.

Indifferent. They are illegal here, yet I've been listening to them go off for a good 30 min. The white noise machine is on super loud tonight! Reminds me of being a kid growing up near Disneyland and hearing them every night

But they're legal here. And we have two babies in the house who haven't even rolled over so they mustn't be too loud.

I cranked up the white noise in LO's room, so he hasn't woken up. But we have people down the street who will set them off until 2 or 3AM. And unfortunately, some dumbasses decided to set a new law in our state a couple of years ago that legalized the full-sized loud as hell ones and also made it legal to set them off ANYTIME within 24 hours of the holiday. WTF. Some of us have jobs to go to in the morning or babies that will be waking us up at 6AM, and these people are in the middle of a subdivision setting off full-size fireworks in the middle of the street for hours without breaks. I hate them so damn much. I wish it would start pouring rain or something on those assholes.

@Pepper: Yeah, these are the professional quality, it seriously sounds like a bomb going off. One of my friends is a veteran who purposely goes away on the 4th because they trigger his PTSD. It's 11:30 here and the neighbor's car alarm just went off after a particularly bad one coming from a block over. But illegal or not, I will match my ass over there and go insane if they go past midnight.

aww...I love them. And we set off a bunch tonight.

But it helps that we're visiting at my mom's house and here, we put LO's travel crib in a giant (interior) walk in closet. We call it her "room", and with a white noise machine going, you can't hear the fireworks at all.

They're legal in my city but people are seriously insane here...two doors down, someone lit a SKY lantern. Yep. Those things that are usually sent off over water? Just floating above my roof. On fire. No big deal...

I don't mind fireworks but I just really hate when people are laid back about fire safety.

I mind them when people two doors down start setting big fireworks off after 9 PM and continue past 10:30 PM when they are illegal in my state. You want to do something illegal till 9:30 PM? Have at it. Shut it down past then. They were so loud because they were so close.

@bookwormmama: They thought it would bring more revenue into the state of Michigan. Screw that. I just signed a petition going around to change it, so fingers crossed it actually does something and they change the law before next year. At the very least they need to put a time constraint on it! But my next door neighbor went down there and reamed them out shortly after midnight, which I was very thankful for.
