I just discovered this seat. It's expensive (currently $400 on Amazon). But it's supposed to be awesome?

I know @msmini: was thinking about getting it, but she didn't.
any ideas why it's supposedly awesome haha?

I saw them last week when I was looking for a carseat with a very tall RF height limit. It has the highest height and weight ranges Ive seen. I just cant make myself spend $400-500.

@Mrs. Pen: Here's a thread: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=219657
Not sure what the "40% FF thing" is, though?
Basically, they're using new technology that supposedly makes their seats the safest on the market? But I think some people are skeptical if that is accurate or just a marketing ploy. They're as narrow as the Radian, with comparable RF weight and height limits (high). And they look super cool!

This website did a pretty thorough review of it:

I love how they look but I can't imagine spending that much ack! I know I've seen one on NBD or amazon warehouse deals though so you should check there!

@allison: Reading the headline only, I was intrigued as to what kind of disease or malady you could possibly be referring to... until I saw your next sentence.
"Clek Foonf is usually transmitted through direct skin contact or Amazon wishlists."
pear / 1895 posts
@scg00387: Yeah, I know. They are so pricey. But we were originally sold on the Radian RXT, which is only $130 cheaper. That's a lot, normally, to me, but when I factor in how many years we will potentially use it (9), it's a pretty negligible difference.
I mean, I spent $400 on a crib mattress, so I'm not exactly normal when it comes to these things, I guess ;).
Also, I have recently decided there is NO way I will ever buy a car seat from the Amazon Warehouse. I read a review of the Foonf (or maybe the Radian?) today, and the reviewer said they used the car seat for a little while then decided they didn't like it, so they returned it to Amazon. Is this potentially a seat that I might end up buying for a few dollars less than a brand new one?!
honeydew / 7687 posts
@allison: I hear you! I thought about the same thing(s) on WD & NBD but I think they both indicate if something is open box vs. used. I bought a boulevard off amazon and hadnt opened it when one came up on NBD so I returned it, and I'm guessing they would resell it as open box even though the box was never actually opened. The seat I got from NBD had clearly never been used/opened. So, I didn't hesitate to buy either but would've returned in a hurry if it appeared they'd been used or actually opened! But that is just me

@scg00387: how can you tell that it hasn't been used/opened?
(I apologize that this thread has clearly gotten a bit off-track!)

Ooh, this looks really interesting! I was confused about what disease you could be talking about too, but I think this is a really cool seat. I like how tall it is. Thanks for sharing

It looks like a cool seat. I saw the blog post that @hilsy85: mentioned. That blogger drives me crazy, but she has reviewed some cool gear!

I had to google this seat but now I want one!! Why are all the other car seats so ugly

@allison: oh enjoy the craziness. she takes a billion pictures of herself too. its pure greatness.

@stargal: @allison: So crazy! She didn't leave her house her entire pregnancy so as to not expose herself to chemicals that might make her child gay. What the heck?!
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
I think Katherine Heigel has one (at least that's what People Magazine told me). I thought that seat looked familiar!
Do you think she'll weigh in?
squash / 13764 posts
@stargal: @Weagle: ha I agree that some of her pregnancy posts were crazy, but she seems to have loosened up since having her baby.
pineapple / 12526 posts
@allison: I thought I had decided on the Radian RXT also... but now reading all these reviews, I might have to talk to DH about it. hahaha. That review @hilsy85: posted makes me really want one too! I LOVE the nice deep pink it comes in.
@Weagle: That has to be the nuttiest thing I've ever heard.
coconut / 8498 posts
@zippylef: That's only one nutty idea that I read... I've thought about it often, actually, because I can't wrap my mind around it.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@Weagle: There are chemicals that make you gay? On this planet? : / Wow. and *jinkies*
pear / 1895 posts
@Weagle: "She didn't leave her house her entire pregnancy so as to not expose herself to chemicals that might make her child gay."
That is insane. I mean, really?
pear / 1895 posts
@zippylef: I KNOW. The more I read about it, the more I have to have it. I think I'm probably going to get it! I've got to make sure it'll fit in my small backseat, though.
pineapple / 12526 posts
@Weagle: I went to find that on her blog and it looks like she deleted that post due to the backlash. She had some kind of post defending herself where she made some kind of comment about maternal stress causing the fetus's brain to be rewired and causing homosexuality. WTF.
@allison: I know! The price tag is killing me though. Buy Buy Baby has them on their website... I wonder if they do in-store. I would like to fit them both in my car and see which fits better, the Clek vs the Radian.
pear / 1895 posts
@zippylef: I'm justifying the price by thinking that I'll be able to get 9 years of use out of it (assuming we are able to have more kids). That's less than $15 a year difference in price vs. the Radian.
Also, I read that the Radian doesn't install well in some vehicles. I know it will do fine in my current car, but we're planning to get something bigger in the future, and what if I can't get a good fit in that one? Also, you have to use the angle adjuster with the radian RF to get it more upright, but that thing is just a piece of foam that sounds like it probably has to be replaced a lot due to compression. Sounds like a PITA to me.
Haha. I'm obviously trying really hard to hate the Radian.
coconut / 8498 posts
@allison: The angle adjuster for the Radian is to get a good fit in smaller cars. It's not necessary if the seat fits without it. What about the height of the Foonf? It seems so tall! Which is one reason we decided against the Radian while we have a sedan. I couldn't see over it!
pineapple / 12526 posts
@allison: @Weagle: Since C is 32" tall at 14 months old, the height is 100% what I need, so I'll deal. I've read that the Foonf is SUPER tall, so that's a consideration for me. I'll be driving an 06 Maxima, so not a small sedan but not a huge one either.
And honestly, I'm not buying into the adjuster thing. We use a tightly rolled towel in my car right now to fit her seat and we'll do it again if necessary.
pear / 1895 posts
@Weagle: @zippylef: I've got a tall (specifically long torso) baby, too. But the Foonf actually has the same top harness height as the Radian. I think the Foonf is a bit taller, but doesn't actually fit a taller kid, if that makes sense?
Yeah, the height of it is probably our biggest concern. We have a small SUV, and my husband (the main driver) is tall, so it's not a deal breaker, yet. But definitely something I need to look into. I'm about to go measure my car against the specs on the website.
pineapple / 12526 posts
@allison: The stats are this:
Radian: 44" total RF height, 25" internal seating height.
Foonf: 43" total RF height, 26" internal height
So it sort of evens out.
pear / 1895 posts
@zippylef: But I think the harness straps are both 17.5"? So I mean, if your kid has an exceptionally long neck...
But yeah, pretty much the same.
I just measured and I'm not sure it's gonna fit front to back. Ugh.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@allison: Does the seat not expire? If it doesn't, then that more than justifies the cost!

@allison: I guess the main por for me for the Radian is that it's a booster until 120lbs too... so it's more of a "one stop shop", you know?
grapefruit / 4442 posts
i never heard of it and I thought it was some crazy typo. It looks pretty cool. i think it would worth it if you're going to have more kids spaced out.
