I have FIOs and my 2 yr agreement is ending.. But the new bundles and discounts still comes out higher than what I was paying. Just chatted up someone online and they're no help of course! I hear mixed things these days about calling and saying you're going to cancel. Anyone have experiences?

I've had mixed experience with this. I had this really awesome bundle and when it ended, I called to change my plan. The person I spoke to ended up giving me the awesome bundle again! But then when it ended again, I called back and the person I spoke to said they weren't offering it anymore and I couldn't get it. Booo!
I recently just called up and yelled at them for upping their prices and not letting me out of my contract (the price of my bundle didn't increase - just other things did like my DVR rental, modem rental, etc). They gave me a discount.
ETA: So basically, it doesn't hurt to call!

We have directv and whenever one of our promotions end we call and ask what they can do for us. They always give us some kind of discount for X amount of months. It's great! Makes me stay with them. We have ATT Internet and the same goes for them although their CS is a nightmare to get through.
Definitely call!

@snowjewelz: Doesn't hurt to call. My husband renegotiates basically every time a contract expires, but sometimes they aren't doing a certain package any more, so you can't get it no matter what. That was the case with our latest renegotiation. Our overall monthly payment is now cheaper, but now we have all the movie channels and fewer of the regular cable channels---so we had to make some trade-offs as our previous package wasn't being done any more.

Yes, Comcast is really persistent about keeping customers and giving extra services at lower cost if you say you're going to cancel.

DH just did it with Uverse....he was able to knock about $70 a month off or something crazy!

When we had cable, they offered great deals when we threatened to cancel.
I'm currently with Verizon FiOS so I'm not sure how things will go when our contract ends. When I moved and wanted to transfer services, they made me sign a brand new contract and services, which was HIGHER than my original contract. I was only moving across town and they wouldn't help me with the pricing or waive the "new install fee", which was super dumb. So mad!!

I call every time and tell them what I can get elsewhere and what I want from them to keep me. What helps in my situation or at least I think it does is the service has not improved. Ever since I started with my Internet provider the speed has been the same. When it comes to cable I have to call tech support at least every two- three months over a couple days because the service gets a little wonky.

Usually if you call you can try to renegotiate packages and pricing. Like everyone else said, it doesn't hurt. We switched from Comcast to a more local cable provider and when we contacted Comcast to cancel they started offering us all these discounts. It just made me mad that they couldn't just upfront offer these discounts instead of jacking rates and as a customer have to go through this song and dance at every contract renewal. I still switched anyway.

@snowjewelz: It took HOURS and he was in a really pissy mood but eventually got elevated to a manager or someone helpful. I think he's just nastier/firmer on the phone than I am, whereas I get frustrated but nothing productive comes of it

@Alivoo01: I think they're more hard ball now b/c they know they're good....? I do hope I can get something out of this b/c I do not want to switch haha. I was already paying almost $130 for triple play... The discounts on my boxes ended or it would have been cheaper.

I did it with Time Warner. I called them and told the customer service rep that I wanted to go down to the most basic channel package because I had Amazon Prime and could watch my shows there. They ended up giving me my same tier of channels for $45 less than what I had been paying. I'll do the same thing again next year and see what happens.

DH called and threatened to cancel DirecTV like every 4 months! Haha we would get a discount for a little while at least. We ended up canceling for real last year though. Best decision.

DH calls Comcast every time we get to the end of our current deal, and has always come out better than they wanted it to be. They're terrible about jacking up prices, but if you (genuinely) threaten to cancel, they'll do just about anything to stop you.

I've had success doing his specifically with fios. Basically, you need to get your call escalated to the customer retention department. They can offer different deals that the regular customer service reps can't offer. Of course you do this by saying you want to cancel.

DH said he's tried to negotiate with Directv and no deal. He threatened to leave and still nothing.

Yes. We threatened Comcast with Verizon and then Verizon with Comcast... now we have Fios cable and upgraded-speed internet for $58/month!

My husband won't even play this game, once he decides he's found a better package elsewhere, he just moves.
We were not able to renegotiate our package, but ultimately, we ended up with a package that didn't even include cable.

@snowjewelz: seriously! We pay $130/mo plus tax for blast internet, all movie channels and the higher cable package plus HDTV, One DVR and two additional cable boxes so we really can't complain. We used to pay $119 incl tax, so the jump kind of sucks. Including taxes it's $158/mo! They've extended this deal for three years for us so that's better than nothing!

@snowjewelz: when my husband and I started dating he was shocked I lived without cable. My parents just had bunny ears too! Luckily he's not a sports fan so he adjusted pretty easily, but when we first moved in together I think he missed it.
