    @regberadaisy: Fios is new in our area so he took full advantage of them trying to break into the market

    @mrs. wagon: So jealous. We don't have FIOS here so Comcast is pretty much the only option unless you get a dish.

    @Adira: yeah, that was us. And apparently Verizon doesn't make any money on Fios so they're not expanding anymore

    Man I'm reading all this stuff online about how they don't really have a customer retention center anymore, and how people cancel service and re-sign up under another spouse to get the cheaper new bundles... So then Fios is really just rotating their customer base, not gaining, and then having to pay the guy to come and "install" new services.

    Google fiber is coming to town and we've already signed up, so we've been using that to leverage Comcast for the time being... But when Google fiber is finally in, we will be gone. We hate Comcast!

    In my experience, they will do a LOT to keep you on as a customer. The flip side being that it can be a real pain to cancel service once you've decided to do so. Of course that may be different depending on the actual service you use. We no longer have cable. We stream netflix, and if/when we feel like we want more service we will stream Amazon, HBO go, or another service.

    DH has had the best luck if there are physical locations you can go into. Especially if there are other customers in the center. They don't want you to get angry and cause a scene, so the negotiating is usually much tamer and you can get a lot more for simply asking nicely.

    One of the best ways to negotiate a better deal is to leverage social media. When I want a lower package I start by tweeting Time Warner or whoever complaining about the price and saying who has a better price. Usually with 5 minutes, someone DMs you and asks for a number to call and you go from there. Public shame will do it every time.

    @Mrs. Jacks: I've never heard of Google Fiber! Too bad they aren't anywhere near New England. Boo.

    @Adira: I think they are only in a few pilot places. Started in Provo, Utah. I think they are somewhere in Kansas and now SLC is getting it. So excited!

    @Adira: I did it!

    So, I was pumping and at work so limited time and I really don't have the time/energy to argue or threaten... (I suck at this stuff anyway). The lady I talked to was actually nice. So at first she wasn't offering me anything different than what's online, which makes my bill at least $10 more (and even higher after increased tax/fees, etc) going forward for the same bundle.

    So then I just said okay, I'll have to think about it since I have a baby now and every expense is something (trying to win sympathy? lol). Then I said I wish something can be worked out b/c I'm a Verizon Wireless customer too and I have 4 lines and we've had it for years!

    She already put me on hold a million times to review right.. So after this she was like okay let me see if there's anything else... Then suddenly, she went into the "backend" and something "popped up" and magically I am able to keep my current bundle price for the next 2 yrs.

    Talk about shady!!!

    But I'm happy that at least there is no price hike and I don't have to deal with this for another 2 years!

    @snowjewelz: Definitely shady, but yay for keeping your bundle at the same price!!!

    I hate how they are always like "We can't help you" and then change their tune to "Oh wait, I can do this for you!" Jerks.
