We had such a fun night! Took LO TOT-ing for the first time, got some great pics... we had to turn off the lights earlier (around 8PM) since she had to go to bed. At 830PM, some stupid teens rang the frickin' doorbell and made all the dogs bark and cause a huge ruckus. Thankfully, LO slept through the madness but I was soooo pissed.

We also had ToT at 830! I couldn't believe it - However I took the opportunity to empty out the candy bowl - they were thrilled and I got rid of the candy!

We didn't get any trick-or-treaters! There are lots of kids in my neighborhood, so I don't understand it.

Like the kids who didn't dress up? Or the ones who didn't know how to say trick or treat in English? After those, I shut the lights off and closed up shop.

I hate when kids don't say trick or treat or thank you. It's so stinking rude. The worst part is those kids are like 12 and older. They should know better. Plus they weren't even really dressed up. Next year I'm posting rules at the end of my driveway.

@Mamaof2: there's no set hours for ToTing in our neighborhood. Most stopped at around 8, but we had a few stragglers late. I figured it came with the territory of not having set hours.

Someone rang our doorbell at 1 am! The dog went barking to door. Miraculously LO didn't wake up...

The weather was a bit damp, but thankfully it wasn't raining when we went trick-or-treating.
We didn't get that many TOTers which kind of bummed me out, but I don't think we didn't get any over the age of 12. No rude teenagers this year and we didn't get a doorbell ring after 8. -
Some teenagers came up and swiped the ENTIRE candy bowl from outside of our place around 8:30. We were hoping to avoid door knocks with a dog and a sleeping baby... and I expected the bowl to get emptied quickly but not for my nice mixing bowl to get swiped! Thankfully we were in the living room and the Mister heard it and jumped up and ran after them. He went full on DAD-mode and asked them to at least give back our bowl.
He ended his scolding with, "you guys are too old for this sh*t".I love him.

Yeah, same as you@pinkcupcake: we turned the lights off at 8 because we were running low on candy and we were putting DD to bed, but some kids continued to ring the bell. Don't kids these days know that lights off = don't ring the bell?!

I've heard of bowls being swiped before and yeah, I would never leave a bowl out there unattended now unless it was an old one I didn't care about. -
We had a group of teenage girls that came up and one was on her cell phone and just silently stuck out her elbow where her paper bag was. Oy. After that, we made it a rule that any older kids had to sing a Justin Beiber, One Direction song or sing What does that Fox say. Haha. The girls actually came back later and they sang a one direction song! They were really good sports about it and totally unashamed. It was pretty awesome and made up for the rudeness earlier in the night.

We didn't have any trick or treaters because we live in an apartment complex, but we did have people loudly hanging out in the courtyard outside our window until 2 am. So annoying!

I can't stand rude kids, no matter how old they are. Pushing your way to the front of the line, grabbing candy out of my hand, then running away without a smile or a thank you? Ugh...

We had great ToTs! Sweet, polite, etc. We got one older teen who was only semi-costumed, but it was obvious he was having to shepherd little siblings, so I gave him candy for his troubles.

@junebugmama: Heehee, I have fun with them! I play dumb if they don't say trick-o-treat. They get a "may I help you"? Or a "i didn't hear you". And last year we had a group of teen boys with sad costumes. I can't remember what it was, but something like only a mask and their regular clothes. I told them they had to work for it. A dance or a song. I believe they sang twinkle twinkle little star for me. It was awesome.

When I was out trick or treating, I heard a kid yell "what a rip off, only peppermints!" when leaving a house. I really dislike ungrateful kids.

I had a few groups of trick or treaters that were rude. They were fairly young (7/8?) but they didn't say thank you or said things like, "Only one?" or "I don't like that kind". Grr... Parents, please teach your kids ToT etiquette!

I had one kid ask for more candy (uhh, seriously?) and we had some kids knock on the door at 8:30 despite the lights being off, which was annoying!
We (luckily or unluckily) don't have any teens on our street or within a couple blocks, so no rude teens or uncostumed kids!

@Grace: @pinkcupcake: @mediagirl: Yeah I won't be leaving a nice bowl out again (but it was the only one big enough!). The Mister said they were all laying flat, face-down in the grass as if they could hide or something. It was almost funny. I went on the porch after he went out and heard them all saying "ooohhhh you're in troubllllleeee" - so that was also satisfying. And hey, they got to keep the candy. Little jerks

@mediagirl: ouch...not trying to start anything, but regardless if they said trick of treat in english or not, should it matter...they are kids and we dont know their home dynamics...i didnt learn english until i was a bit older and my parents still took me out ToTing...SORRY not trying to step on toes...

I don't love it when the same kids come back to your house for more candy. My oldest even noticed it, and I had to bite my tongue and instead said that we should take it as a compliment that they liked our candy.

@shinymama: A few years ago, the first Halloween in our previous house, we got WAY more trick-or-treaters than we expected. The following year we prepared accordingly... and ended up with two groups (half of those kids not in costume) and then the doorbell rang a third time and it was the first group coming back again!? I gave them candy and then turned the porch light off and kept the rest for us to eat.

Ours was really good, about 50 or so kids and we had the perfect amount left over for us (10 pieces of so). Everyone was very polite and 90% even said thank you. The only blemish on the evening was when our little doxie ran outside and scared the CRAP out of a little guy who was bout 2 years old. Our dog would never hurt a fly and probably was just going to smell him, but the kid (understandably) screamed as soon as he saw the dog and then proceeded to run around the yard screaming as our dog playfully chased him. I had to run outside and yell at the dog while chasing them and I'm sure that scared the poor kid even more - ugh.

@pinkcupcake: SAME thing happened to us! I got LO to bed and just got pulled up to the couch to watch Grey's (lights off in house) and the doorbell rings. I peak out the window and it is a costume-less loner kid...out way too late.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: We've done this before in the past, but only for teenagers without costumes on. If they sang a song, they could have candy. Almost all of them will do it, so it's at least fun for us.

LO and I went to my dads for the day and he and his wife fed her cheezies ALL day. So she really didnt eat any good meals. And when she didnt eat they said "well we may as well give her more cheezies so she at least eats something"..... Really??? Is that a better alternative? So LO had a sore tummy before bed arggggg

I didn't have anything annoying last night, but we had bad storms so they said kids could go trick or treating last night OR tonight (which is super confusing, they should have just picked one).
My annoying kids came tonight...without costumes, about six of them. I asked what they were supposed to be and they said "us". They didn't even say "Trick or Treat"! But I still gave them a bunch of candy after I gave them a hard time about their costumes because they are the only ones who showed up all night and I do not need that candy hanging around here!

My oldest decided to stick around with my boss and hand out candy for ToT downtown businesses, so he saw more annoying things then I did! One example is when parents come by with a small baby who obviously doesn't even eat solids yet, and hold a bag and say "you missed the babies bag"! That happened repetitively.
Then some random guy looked at my sons costume and said "it's never good when you need a sign" It took all I had not to call him a dumb@ss! He was a gingerbread man, a play on his bright red hair

@pinkcupcake: I remember reading your starter post and didn't comment because I didn't want to be the first...ha I will officially kill the thread!
I wasn't annoyed, but I had an older child come by without a costume. He was with a costumed friend. I asked where his constume was and he shrugged saying he was going as himself this year. I replied "yourself is good enough!" Who knows maybe the child's parent couldn't afford a costume or in othwr worda to throw away $20-$30.
I was annoyed by the children who did not say thank you. I gave out handfuls of candy and even let the kids pick their own. So yeah a Thank you would have been nice.
I've heard of bowls being swiped before and yeah, I would never leave a bowl out there unattended now unless it was an old one I didn't care about.
