We were at a get together at my inlaws' house today. DH's cousin was there with her 4 and 2 year old. She was holding my baby (3 weeks old), when her 4 year old asked to hold her. Without hesitation, without checking with me first, she put the baby into her 4 year olds arms. The child was seated and S was safe but looked uncomfortable. After she had held her, the 2 year old got a turn. Later, my MIL was holding S and the 4 year old came up and asked to hold her again. Again, without asking me, my MIL got the kid into position and placed my baby into her arms.

It really bothers me. My child is a human being, not a toy to be passed around for everyone's amusement. Plus, surely they should have asked my permission first?? Lastly, those kids will be germy and my baby is only 3 weeks old. DH, on the other hand, says that my feelings about this are "unreasonable and, frankly, a bit weird" and that people didn't ask because it wouldn't occur to them that it would be necessary (because the way I feel about it is so abnormal).

What do you think??
