My family wasn't big on gifts so we never did the stocking thing, but it'll be fun to do for Charlie and Olive.
Did your family fill stockings? What kinds of things did you get?

Yup we always got stockings, we would get candy and a few small gifts...I don't really remember what but I know they were just small cheaper things. For LO this year (she is 2.5 months) we will be giving her a first toothbrush, a trainer sippy cup, pacifiers, puffs, and probably a small toy.

We always got stockings growing up. We'd get socks, candy, gum, earings, hair clips, maybe a casset tape. Small stuff, nothing super fancy. I just dropped our new stockings off today to be embroidered, but since Prettybaby will be just over 9 months old, I'm going to fill her stocking with wads of Christmas wrapping paper for her to pull out and stuff back in.

No stockings this year. Gonna wait until LO's a little older.

@chopsuey119: Same here. Gonna wait until my son is a little older so that he can appreciate it more. I so cheap.

Yes. My mom always put fun things like nail polish or eye shadows. Now we get toothbrushes, razors, hair ties, deoderant. Definitely more practical than before

@banana: haha. kids don't really remember anything (forever) until they're 4ish or so.

@banana: @chopsuey119: this is why I'm not putting presents in there! lol! I figure she'll get just as big of a charge out of pretty paper wadded up in balls as she would any real gift in there.

Yes, my mom did and I always loved the tradition! I don't remember what she used to put in it, maybe books, CDs, candy, socks?

Yes! My mom was the best at stuffing stockings, they were so excited to open. She would put candy, socks, underwear, mini manicure sets, makeup, and my favorite- lottery tickets!

I hang up stockings but haven't filled them yet. I will wait unti the kids are older to put stuff in them.

Yep! We do toiletries, socks, candy and cheapy things like car air fresheners. My parents used to put little cheap toys in ours along with necessities. For some reason, I remember this one item. It was a washcloth that was a cube the size of a quarter. You had to put it in water to make it expand. It made me want to take A bath.

Oh man, I am so excited to do stockings for future LOs! When I was a kid, our stockings were like an advent calendar sorta thing. We got one small gift (like stickers or a chocolate bar) each day until Christmas. On Xmas, the stockings were the last thing that we could open, always just before going to bed. It was always something small, relatively inexpensive (puzzle books, etc). Though as I got older, my parents started to give me nice jewelery in my stocking

I won't do a stocking for LO she's still too young but I will hang hers up!

Yes! When I was little we couldn't open our gifts under the tree until everyone was up and Dad was done cooking breakfast, so when we would wake up at the crack of dawn (earlier...!) we would take our stockings into our parents bedroom and open them on the bed. Like PP's said, mostly socks, toothbrush, tapes, nail polish, little/cheaper things.
The past couple years we've only done stockings. None of us really need big gifts and it's more fun to try and find something to put in there. I plan to keep this tradition alive!
We ALWAYS had a clementine in the very bottom to keep the shape of the tip of the stocking, I plan to do that as well

I love stockings. I fill my husband's with candy, gift cards, and a couple of gag gifts.

We were (and still are!) big on stockings! My parents always put special candies, little toys, makeup, nail polish, fun socks and stuff like that in them. Now we still do pretty much the same except everyone contributes a few items for everyone else's stocking which makes it so fun! We'll definitely do it for our kids.

yes! for whatever reason, it's my favorite part. i always got toiletries (shampoo, facewash, toothbrush, etc.), candy, make up, jewelery, gift cards, and other little things. my dad always went crazy with the stocking stuffers, so we always had a stocking plus a plastic bag full of stuff! our lo isn't even here yet, but i plan on making her up a stocking - i'll just put little things like pacifiers and onesies in there - because i'm obsessed with stockings.

I always got a stocking as a child, and one year when we were both married my mom made some comment about not doing them anymore (apparently 4 stockings for adults wasn't what she signed up for?). I threatened to cry (I don't like when people mess with my traditions) so now we all buy each other stocking stuffers, which is very fun and not stressful.

Oh yes we totally do stockings!! Now that we kids are grown we all sort pick up stocking stuffers for each other as we shop so the burden isn't on just my mom to fill them all. Hubs and I are hosting my parents and my aunt for Christmas this year and it's our first time hosting. So I'm not sure if it will be on us to fill them all up.

We still do at my parents!!
We put candy, gum, keychains, CDs, DVDs, money, lotion, chapstick, makeup, nail polish, stationery, fabric (for the DIYers), pens, pencils etc...
I want to do them for LO but we'll probably start next year.

We have always done them. My family put all kinds of stuff. Candy, lotto tickets, gift certificates, etc.
Dh's family does fruit and other little things.
