I'm messaging a nothing bee about where to visit in my town and I'm curious how you all feel about yours? Do you plan to always live in the same house? City? State? Or do you have dreams/plans to move elsewhere?

I like where we currently live because it is close to family, and close to the mountains. And it's beautiful! We bought a little starter home earlier this year, and plan to stay there 3-5 years. We haven't started having kids yet (but I think 2017 is our year!), but we'd ideally have them while we are still living close to family.
However, we've always thrown around the idea of moving back to my husband's home country (Ecuador). I am starting a new job in August that has the very real possibility of working remotely after a year...so we'll see! There are a few things that need to happen before I'd feel good enough to move back. I'm thinking it will happen in 5-8 years.

We are very much ready to move our of our city into a very small farming community (I'm talking gravel roads/ town of 250 small!) We both grew up in small towns, and we are ready to be back to that lifestyle. Luckily for us, I'll still work in the city (30 minute commute) so we won't really miss out on the luxuries it provides!

We are seriously discussing moving from MA to FL. We are tired of the winters here as well as the cost of living. Plus, my parents spend 1/2 the year there, so it would be nice to have their support. It's kind of scary trying to plan such a big move though. Plus we have a house to sell. The logistics are a huge to hurdle to getting this to work.

I am so ready to leave the large city we live in. I used to love it, but it has grown so much in the past 10 years that it's not as much fun anymore. Real estate prices are ridiculous. Traffic is consistently ranked as some of the worst in the country. Added to that I now have to deal with open carry and an idiot politicians.I'd love to go back to my home state - Michigan - but my job is really niche. I have to work at a University and my job doesn't come open a lot. We have built a pretty great urban family here that I would be sad to leave.

Meh? I live in a 60k town in the center of an agricultural valley. It's pretty low on culture etc but we both have good jobs as teachers and if we drive 2 hours in either direction, we are at the beach or the mountains. Our families are here or within a 2 hour drive, so that's great. Sometimes, I would really like to leave (not too far) but I am not sure where we would go exactly.

Yes - we love where we live... We recently moved to the town that we're in a couple of years ago and we specifically chose this town to stay in and raise our kids and put them through this school system!
i think after the kids are out of school we'll move, most likely.

I live in Silicon Valley and it's a great place to live if you are into a fairly urbanish vibe and you have money. I'm not really into either so I don't love it. There's a lot of work hard/ play harder attitude here. Plus the CDC is investigating some of the pressure cooker high schools because of too many suicides (this is a fairly good reflection of the culture of this place, I believe).
At this point I'm dreaming about moving to a place where we could afford a house (houses here go for 1.5+ mil).
My never-gonna-happen dream is to move somewhere with land. Not even a huge amount of land, just like 1-5 acres. My parents' health keep us tied to Northern California and my husband has a fairly specific job that only has a couple places he could work in northern California.
I'd love to live in Davis, Ca. It's kind of a college town but it's a really great community. The Central Valley in California is fairly conservative, while the Bay Area is more liberal and I think Davis is a really good mix.
My husband just went to New Hampshire for a conference and now he's dreaming of moving there.

We just bought our forever (or until the girls go to college) home, but I can see us buying an RV and traveling when we retire... or possibly out west- I used to live in Santa Fe and miss it.

@LuLu Mom: I live in the 250 person town and I love it!
I've lived here most of my life, as has DH, this area will always be home to us. We have a home on 12 acres with his sister(and her family) and his mom and dad on the other side. I live a football field from my MIL. Good thing I love her

@Jackiedavis87: OMG are you me
HAHA we are in the process of buying 10 acres from my in laws, and we will build about 2 football fields from them! However, in the 2 mile square radius from our future home are 5 other family members acreages! I'm not going to lie I'm really nervous about SO much family close, but my DH will be taking over the farm once FIL retires, so we have to be close!

We moved to Cincinnati, OH 4 yrs ago and really love it here. It's got great schools, lots of things to do with kids and low cost of living. w
We really enjoy the amazing arte organizations and the relatively new food scene. I like to think of it as a small city that really wants to be big and you can really see the effort.

We are in our forever location.. in the country (technically a 'village' town, pop. like 12
) and centrally located to 3 big cities and a few smaller towns. I grew up on a farm and always thought I'd want to live in a bigger city, but I LOVE the country.
I lived in Florida for a year and loved that as well though, so maybe someday we'll be snowbirds.

Seattle is and was never my forever home. Seattle was a chance to leave my home state and take a career opportunity. With kids and their young age, I need to be closer to both our families and that is on the east coast. A lot of family still live in PA but I would take any state that is about 5-6 hour drive from PA. Still hoping to move back east this year. *Fingers crossed*

I love our little town. We live in a 1910 home we have fixed up and can walk downtown to basic amenities -b ank, grocery store, post office, handful of restaurants/bars and the farmers market. If we stay here I want to build a house in a nearby farming community.
DH works for a global company there's a job he would like where we could live wherever we want- if that happens we will likely move full time or buy a second home in central Oregon (the schools are better there)
It's also possible we would move to the NE for his job- where their corporate headquarters are- but that would hopefully be closer to the end of his career. That would be a big change. As an adult I've never lived out of the PNW. It's also possible we could get a permanent or temporary offer anywhere in the world.
We will see. I'm pretty adaptable. The idea that home is wherever I'm with you rings true to me.

I'm happy where we live, as I've lived here my whole life.
DH on the other hand has been itching to move for quite some time. He just wants a "start-over" something new. Plus he wants a more steady climate (warmer).
I honestly don't think we will ever move out of the area though.

We live in Vienna, and at this stage of our lives with young children it's great. But we know we will not be here forever (max of 7 years and we are halfway through that) and neither of us want to live here forever in any case. I have no idea where we will go next. Neither my husband not I feel the need to settle down somewhere. We are from different countries, so we have a fairly extensive range of options (and we both have major wanderlust), but we have never been able to pinpoint a place where we would like to put down roots. If it were up to me, we would live in Paris, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I live in Westchester County in NY, which is one of the most expensive places to live in America, so that's not necessarily great, but I love the town and how close I am to family and friends. We just bought a 4 bedroom house last year, so we will probably stay here for a very long time. I only really see us moving if we can no longer afford to live here and need to move further north to a less expensive county.
Ideally, me and my husband would love to live in New Zealand at some point. We went to New Zealand on our honeymoon 2 years ago and fell in love with the country and the way of life there. I don't think I could live across the world from my family though, so not sure that will ever happen.

I'm not unhappy with where we live but it's not where we want to be long term. We hope to move back to our home state to be closer to our parents. And the ocean - I really miss living so close to the ocean.

My mom grew up in Vermont and I love the movie Baby Boom so I've dreamed about moving there but chances are if we move it will be to Illinois or Missouri to be closer to family.

I love our town, the nearby city (Portland, or), and our state (WA, my home state). Our house isn't perfect, but it works and we absolutely love the area. We also have some of the best schools in the state and the metro area here.
Sadly, it is highly likely that we will move from our town on the Washington side to somewhere on the Oregon side in the next few years. My husband is a tradesman, the work is in Oregon, and the commute from our town is brutal.
In a perfect world, we'd stay in our town and my parents would move closer. They're about 2 hours away now and it's further away than any of us would like.

It is my dream to leave this country permanently. The problem is that my husband and I can not agree on a location, so right now, we are staying where we are.

We are going to have to decide soon where to lay down roots but right now we have no idea. Where we live now is very beautiful and idyllic but isolated and the nearest town is just horrendous. I shudder to think of raising my kids there. We have to decide whether family nearby trumps how much we loved living abroad and then figure it all out. But the short answer is no, we - or at least I - am not happy with where we live.

We have a house, great friends and community, and family close enough, but no I don't want to stay here. I dream of living near the ocean again. I'd settle for a lake. Anything with free swimming.

We also live in Westchester County, NY, which is just north of NYC. Our jobs brought us to this area, and despite it being one of the most expensive areas in the country, we plan on raising our family here. Our families are close by and we love the natural beauty of the area. Once the kids graduate and we retire, we want to sell our house and move to Hawaii. For real!

I desperately want to move back to NYC at some point in the near future. We'll see if that will be possible.

We are very happy where we are. 2 years ago we moved away from the city and back to Central PA to be close to our familyies. It was a bitter pill for me to swallow - I really didn't want to do it. But now that we're here and settled I'm pretty happy. It's nice having family less than 30 minutes away. My sister's son is 14 weeks younger than D and they are best friends. I love our neighborhood SO MUCH MORE than our old neighborhood, and the truth is we could not have afforded this neighborhood in/around Philly. I miss living so close to the city and all that that entails, but the tradeoff has been mostly worth it. Eventually when the kids are grown and married, I'd really like to move to Charleston, SC, at least part of the year.

We will probably always live in this state (our families are all here, we have great jobs, and we mostly like our city). We hope to move to another city within a few years, which is our dream city within the state.
It's relatively easy for me to be happy here right now though because it's summer. Every winter I moan about wanting to live in a place with a milder climate (and lower cost of living would help too).

@Alba4: I also live in Westchester and I grew up in Hawaii so I like your plan. We might do the same.

I love this general area, but we are moving out of the city soon to the suburbs. We haven't decided which burb yet but I do love the area. But, like @catlady: said it's easy to love it in summer and fall. Ask again when we have another bad winter.
I love our current neighborhood too, but we want more space than you can have in the city and schools are a crap shoot.

I'd love to move back to my home state, but we have a home here and are close to DH's family. We both have good jobs here, and my job is pretty specific and not easy to find. So we are staying in place. I miss my family, and I miss nature. But my ideal place (rural, small) doesn't have a lot of job opportunities.

DH and I are actively looking to move east. It's kind of crazy to leave a place with so many job opportunities, good schools, and a low cost of living.... but we miss our families and want to raise DD near them.

I love living in the PNW. We had an opportunity to move to the Bay Area a few years ago that we thought hard about. Ultimately we decided it wasn't for us and I'm happy with that decision. Sometimes the endless rain gets to me, but a vacation usually solves that! Perhaps when we retire we will spend part of the winter in a sunnier locale.
I find it so interesting that so many people want to live in small towns! I am very happy in the suburb of our big city and I wouldn't mind living right in the city either!

I lover living in my huge, hot city. Truly. I love the National Parks and there's so many to visit in the Southwest. I love the sun and swiming which is perfect since we have a pool and live in the desert. It's a manageable cost of living. The only thing I don't like is that I miss my family which lives on the other side of the country. Also this state is horrible for teachers and both DH and I are teachers.

I've lived in the same area (different towns but all in the same region) my whole life and I like it more now than I ever really thought I would when I was in high school/college/early 20s. At that time I wanted to get out and start over somewhere else but I never did and now I'm really appreciating being close to family and a built-in support system. Especially having friends with young kids who have moved far from family and are struggling with it. It helps that the city we are in now is revitalizing it's downtown area and there's a lot of fun stuff to do. We are looking to move more toward the suburbs since we are starting our family and want to buy a house, but we want to stay pretty close to the areas with restaurants/shops, etc.
I can see us eventually moving to VT though! Both of our families are from there and we love it.

I live in Austin and have always loved it. I'm looking forward to raising kids here. But if we had to move somewhere (and maybe someday we will!) my husband and I have always been interested in the Pacific NW. Oregon in particular. Has the Austin vibe we love but a whole lot greener. We'll see! For now we're happy Texans
