I’m in the same boat, my older son’s daycare is closed and younger son’s is open. We’re keeping them both home, although to be honest I don’t know how much of that is social distancing and how much of it is just avoiding the “why do I have to go when he doesn’t have to go?!?!” fight.

In your situation, since there are many cases in your county, I’d keep him home since you will be home anyways.

Our schools havent closed yet so our kids will keep going. I think if/when school does close we will keep the younger one home too, for both health and cost reasons.

If our elementary isn’t closed after spring break this week I’m not sure what I’ll do, but a lot can happen in a week.

Middle goes to preschool MWF and it will be open if that area school district stays open (next to one we live in). I kept him home Friday, he has viral-triggered asthma so he coughs a ton even for a minor illness and is surely a contagion problem (for corona and everything else).

I actually think it’s not impossible we have it now. I got diagnosed with viral bronchitis and given prednisone for cough, chest tightness (quite severe after showering), low grade fever, aches. It’s almost impossible to get tested here so we’ll probably never know. The little two kids were both sick and coughing this week (one before the other) and my asthma kid needed steroids also, but he was less sick than he was from the flu a couple months ago when he got pneumonia, so that’s good.

Without testing it is really hard to know how to proceed. I wouldn’t send a kid with symptoms but what about one who was sick the prior week?

We disagree on this, too. Daycare is open and DH thinks we should send DD until we can’t, but I feel like if one or both of us are home (which isn’t the case yet) we should keep her out of an abundance of caution. Only 2 confirmed cases in my state, but one lives in our village, so I’m sure there’s more around.

K-12 schools have closed here until april 24th But so far, our preschool is open. I work in a hospital near Seattle as a provider so I’m obviously still going to work. My husband is able to work from home but he is in admin at a college and has been in conference calls and Skype meetings for 10 hours a day since last week. So our 4yo could technically stay home but it would be really hard for both of them. I’m not sure what we are going to do yet.

We were going to be in this boat as well with a 5yo and 18mo but the daycare did follow the schools. We were going to keep them both home regardless. DW can work from home and will for the next 3 weeks. I can’t, but our office is only going to be open 3 days a week and so we will alternate: DW work M, T, 1/2 W and me 1/2 W, T, F. But we have sympathetic bosses and in Canada so I’m not concerned about money or time off.

School is closed but daycare hasn’t closed yet. I let daycare know my son will be out for a few weeks. Hopefully if they get feedback from parents now it will help them with a decision. I am going to do my best to work with the kids home. DH is a nurse at the hospital. This is going to be a challenging time.

School is closed for two weeks starting Monday but their aftercare is open and functioning as a daycare if we wanted. Neither DH or my work has closed although we are recommended to telework, both of us have only a few tasks that can be done remotely, most have to be there using lab equipment, etc. We are going to stagger schedules to keep the kids home and still go to work for at least the beginning of the week. My thought is, DH and I can be vigilant about hand washing, etc, but the kids wont be (and even if they were, can't trust other kids to) so it's best to minimize their contacts.

I was going to have to send them since I teach in a daycare. But it just closed. So.

We had this discussion and ultimately daycares were told to close today. Before that announcement we were keeping them home through Wednesday and evaluating daily, it is just changing so quick and moving...then the governor made the decision for us. Now explaining to my husband why being home with two kids and being 33 weeks pregnant and trying to work remote is exhausting and not feasible. Work is just going to have to understand. It is a tough situation for all of us but we have to slow the spread.

Change of heart.....he's staying home going forward. We'll just deal with what we're dealt.

@HappyBaker: I hope they’re still able to pay the teachers even if they don’t come in. Childcare workers make so little I do worry about DD’s fabulous teachers if enough parents pull their kids. We’re still paying, so I want the teachers to get paid like normal, too.

I sent DD1 yesterday but today I am going to tell DH we really need to pull her. I think our local grandparents will take her (it would be one extra day for each set of grandparents, and they will already be watching DD2 that day). I just can’t justify sending her at this point and still being around my parents (dad is 70, mom is 67).

Our daycare is still paying teachers. There are one year contracts for families and they as of now aren’t letting anyone out because they are a non profit and have almost no margins left after paying teachers. But a lot of people want out of contracts but to keep their slots. They are looking at loans to let some families not pay based on need but it’s already more expensive than other area daycares as they pay teachers well and this would further increase costs to pay back. In short it’s a mess. Margins in childcare are thin so i doubt most centers are in a position to pay teachers for an extended period if families aren’t still paying...

Our preschool is a small non profit, with just five regular teachers, they got together and decided to not pay themselves during the closure in order to hopefully keep the school afloat. They are discussing refunds and not accepting tuition depending on what happens. We have prepaid for the remainder of the year and do not plan on accepting the refund. The school has meant so much to us and the teachers feel like family.

I am on the board for our small parent-run coop. We have 4 teachers. March tuition has been paid and May tuition as well (it’s paid in the fall). Not sure what we will do about April tuition (I imagine we will do our April board meeting by zoom). Or whether we will refund April. But our teachers need to be paid. It’s all a mess.

@Jess1483: maybe you could offer 50% off, if you feel the need to discount in some way? My preschool will also be streaming a "circle time" for each day, details to be released later in the week.
