We're dealing with our first fever over here, boo
I don't want to over medicate but also want LO to be comfortable. What is your temperature marker for giving medication?

Over 102 (closer to 103) & only is she's showing discomfort. We'll usually try some lavender aromatherapy or on a cool wash cloth first to manage a rising temp, but really it's only is she's upset or whiny/fussy. We adhere to fevers being a good thing & will usually reference this:

Hope lo starts feeling better soon!

When LO is around 100 and seems in any discomfort. I hope your LO feels better soon

@runsyellowlites: oh wow ok, I thought I was being conservative But you are even more so!
@Lindsay05: thank you!! me too, I guess we had a good run though (he's 11 months and this is his first real sickness!).

Over 100 per my future pediatrician DH...but it depends on how she's acting.

@Lindsay05: same here.
@hilsy85: hope he feels better soon! fevers are the pits

@MamaCate: ha that is SO HANDY. I wish I had a pedi friend/family member!

@hilsy85: That is a good run! We had a fever scare around 4 months and I was so panicked because my doc said to bring her in to outpatients for ANY fever. Well the ER doc said give her some Tylenol and she'd be fine. lol

@hilsy85: it is handy! the med school part (right now he is a 4th year) is totally ridiculous but that is the upside...

102 but if she's skirting the line and it's bedtime we medicate so it doesn't spike overnight.

Over 101 with signs of discomfort. We only use Tylenol.

Over 101, and if we need to give more than 1 dose, we alternate Tylenol and Children's Motrin.
grapefruit / 4817 posts
We only use it at signs of discomfort, which usually ends up being around 100. I'm not conservative, though. I'd rather he be comfortable.

At 100, I give a half dose. So far, it's always worked to keep it from going higher.
I think one time it did go higher and then we gave him a full dose, but that must have been early on because I don't remember details.

I have been told by numerous doctors 101 and signs of discomfort so that is usually what we stick with.

@locavore_mama: yeah that was my line too, but he was 101.7 and definitely unhappy so I gave it to him!
@autumnlove: how come only tylenol?
@Pepper: thanks!
@TurtleDoves: @BananaPancakes: I read that up to 100.4 isn't actually even considered a fever, so that made me a little cautious...but I think the child's discomfort is the most important thing!
@Cole: will definitely be asking our pedi her opinion at our next appt.
I am hoping he is finally on the mend...he went up to 101.7 today but since waking from his nap at 4:30 (took motrin before), his temp has been normal. I hope this means it's over! Sick babies are the saddest.

@hilsy85: I've also heard 101 is fever territory, but I have a feeling he's like his father, who's entire body aches around 99.5 and thinks he's dying at 101. He acts like a completely different child when he aches. I'm just of the mindset that there's no reason he needs to be that uncomfortable if he doesn't have to. We're dealing with a cold this week, too, and it's never fun when our babes are sick. Hope yours feels better soon.

@hilsy85: yup if we're close and she is clearly uncomfortable. Whining, crying etc I give it too.

@BananaPancakes: I'm sorry but this made me laugh. The three of us have colds. Chloe is cranky, I'm dealing with it, and my husband is on his death bed. I swear he is overexaggering his coughs just so I feel bad for him!
squash / 13764 posts
@Beehive: thanks!
@BananaPancakes: ha that also made me laugh. My DH is the same way!
Men!

@hilsy85: FWIW my pedi said up to 100.4 isn't considered a fever, and lots of babies run hottest at the end of the day. I usually only give it if he's closer to 102 or if he seems miserable, which thankfully hasn't been very often. Glad to hear his fever broke!

Mid to upper 102's, unless he is super miserable. I prefer Ibuprofen usually, but that was after the 6 month point.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
over 101, but you might want to try the onion in the sock trick too. it worked for us! i even did it on myself and it completely broke my fever within hours.
coconut / 8681 posts
Over 100 for us with signs of discomfort. Even the littlest fever freaks me out completely! I hope L's fever stays away!
honeydew / 7295 posts
Over 100 and in very rare occasions when he seems miserably uncomfortable and inconsolable even with nursing. I try hard not to give it to him to often because I real think even with the dosing its not great for him.
pomelo / 5866 posts
I used to be anything over a hundred. Now 102 is my threshold of concern
squash / 13764 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: ooh what is that??
@MrsMccarthy: yeah he's not miserable, just not happy you know? @scg00387: @Running Elley: thanks!
Hit 102.4 last night so gave him Motrin...today it's 100.7. Our pedi office is closed today too, otherwise I would bring him in
