My son will be 11 months in Aug and we're going to Bermuda! Far enough north that its not in the hurricane path of the Caribbean, and a quick direct flight from Boston, and I'm sure NYC has direct flights too. I've never been, but I've heard its beautiful and there are lots of calm beaches.

I don’t know about hurricanes, but we went to Miami when my oldest was about 18 months, I think we went in July. The water where we were was perfect, fairly shallow, no waves, and warm. But it was just a regular hotel, not a resort.

@PurplePumps: beat me to it. Bermuda is so easy from the NYC area - we stayed at Rosewood Tucker's Point when I was pregnant with DD3, but saw a number of families there. Very quiet; good pools, beach had gentle waves. You do use golf carts to get around the property, so you'd just need to be fine with that for transporting your LOs. It is not all inclusive and is on the pricier end, but if all-inclusive is what you want, I'm sure you could find that as well!

Aruba is also super easy; the vibe is very different (louder, younger, etc.) but the beaches are still nice and there are lots of types of property to choose from. There are a few small attractions that are great for young kids (butterfly farm, donkey sanctuary), but other than that, you can just relax! And we found a number of options for suites, which is helpful travelling with little kids.

@LCTBQE: we're staying at Fairmont Southhampton, not an all inclusive. It's much further north, so not in the usual hurricane path. We considered Aruba and Cancun too, but they ater longer or connecting, so we decided a direct 2.5 hr flight was the way to go since they are all nice. The hotels at Bermuda cost more, but the cheaper flights made up for it and the cost difference ended up being minimal for all. (We have 7 families going and i had a huge spread sheet for total flight and hotel cost for 2-4 people).

I don't know about beaches, but mid-August is when hurricane season starts to be busy. Peak is actually early September. However, I wouldn't go without travel insurance.

@charm55: we did PEI when our kids were 3 and 1 and it was a blast!! And assuming you’re who I think with just a username change, it was because of your recommendations.

So I would definitely check out Prince Edward Island. My kids were 3 and 1 (boy and girl) and we had an awesome time.

We’ve done Marriott Singer island with our son when he was 1 and again when he was 2. We love it! It has both a nice beach and 2 pools/ one with a big beach entry. The hotel staff are awesome and little things like valet and Starbucks in the lobby make it nice for people with kids. There are some good restaurants in the area but we really just use it as a nice, relaxing beach trip.

@Mrs. Champagne: I’m just seeing this now - but I’m so glad you had a great trip and the recommendations were helpful! I’m looking at bringing my girls this summer- we haven’t been in a couple of years.

Check out the Sandpearl Resort in Clearwater, FL. We love that place. It’s a really easy flight down to Tampa and will be much less than Bermuda.

You could also consider Cape Cod. We go there pretty much every year. The beaches on the cape side are like bath water and super shallow a long ways out with almost no waves. But resorts can be expensive, most people rent houses. Though you’d save on airfare if you could drive.
