My 5.5 month old keeps crying in her sleep several times a night. It doesnt last long, usually its just a few seconds, and she goes back to sleep. The strange thing is, when she wakes up in the morning for the day, she doesn't cry, she usually just talks to herself, or kicks around in her crib. Anyone have any ideas why this happens? Is this normal?

Sounds perfectly normal to me! It's grea that she can put herself back to sleep.

My 4.5 month old keeps doing the same thing. I was also wondering I'd it was normal. I get so worried and DH has to stop me from going in there by pointing out that she's still asleep.

That has happened with my daughter too. Sometimes it's just a wine type cry and sometimes she breaks out into a full blown scream. Her eyes stay closed so I'm pretty sure she doesn't know it's happening. She's only 7 weeks.

Both of my LOs do it from time to time. It's normal. You are lucky that it doesn't wake her up all the way!

My 5 month old has been doing this for a few weeks, Thank goodness for the video monitor!

My son has always done this (and still does at 2!) It's normal

I did a search and some people seem to think it's because they are having bad dreams. If that's true, it's so sad!

@Pumpkin Pie: My son did this around 6-7 months. It was hard to listen to because he would look sound asleep (laying down, eyes closed), but cry like his little heart was breaking. I also read it was bad dreams, and thankfully it passed.

I sure hope it passes for us SOON! Even though she is technically sleeping through the night, we aren't because we wake up every time.

DS is 14 months and has done this randomly since he was a new born!
