I was telling DH that we need to get those "Baby On Board" signs for the cars. He doesn't believe they are really effective or do anything. I think that I am more cautious and tend to keep a farther distance when I am behind a car with those signs.
What do you think? Do those signs really make a difference on how safe other drivers behave around you?

I think they draw negative attention to the fact that you have a baby. Don't like them.

Eh, I don't know if they'll make someone drive better, but they may make people think twice about flipping you off! I got a Hello Kitty one because it's too cute!

If I see a car with a baby on board sign, I usually make fun of them for being stuck in the 90's. But really, I don't think they affect how anyone else drives around you. Sorry. 
Hahaha, but I'm sure most people are a lot nicer than I am, so you might have some luck with one!

I don't see the point personally... maybe people will be less likely to break into my car with one of those since I have kids I don't have awesome stuff to steal?

I can't stand them! If the purpose is to prevent accidents, it's useless. There's a reason it's called an accident. It makes we want to go "congrats, you reproduced. So have most of the population in the US." I really hate them.

I wish they said "I take corners excruciatingly slowly and accelerate like a grandma because otherwise my sleeping kid's head goes flopping around like a rag doll's. Just go around me already!" That would be more accurate in describing what having precious cargo in my backseat has done to my driving habits.

LOL! Wow! Lots of sign hate! haha! I guess DH gets the win! I just know that our surface street limits get up to 60mph on some streets, with most in the 50mph range.

This is crazy! DH and I both have them and I see them on cars all the time here in SF. I always drive more cautiously and then I cuss people out when they're tailing me when they can clearly see the sign (on a highway going over 70!)! What jerks.
I still like having them- even of it gives me more peace of mind then anything

Wow I'm surprised at all the negative reactions! We had one did DD and I felt that people were more considerate. But we didn't use it that long. We removed it for some reason and never put it back on. We didn't use one for DS. I definitely never think negatively when I see them...

I don't drive any differently when I see the sign but I don't get as angry when a car with that sign is driving really slowly in front of me.

I worry about kidnappers, actually. I think it's advertising "Hi, I'm a woman alone with a baby, we're vulnerable and easy targets."
That's my reasoning against those little family stick figure stickers too - I've heard about criminals using them to find families with little girls and such.

I honestly have never understood their purpose. It's not like someone's going to say, "OH! There's a baby in that car! In that case I won't hit it!" People don't get in accidents because they want to...they get in accidents because, well, they're accidents

It always seems like the people with those signs are way worse drivers than everyone else, and I think they are attention-whoreish. Like, OMG *you* have a baby....well, everyone on the road, give the parent the right of way.

@yoursilverlining: I tend to agree. I feel like (not accusing, just personal thoughts!) it gives the parent an excuse to drive poorly.

@yoursilverlining: I use it more because I don't want people tailing me. Rear end collisions are so common on our freeway that is like people to give me a little exta room incase we all have to slam on the breaks...not because I need the right away. Maybe that's not the case for everyone

@luckypenny: That's how I always felt the signs were useful-ish. So people wouldn't tail you too closely? But if they are so widely disregarded, I wouldn't want to draw more attention to myself.

I don't usually pay attention to them - unless they're driving like an a-hole. Then I most definitely honk, roll down my window and tell them what a crappy parent they are for driving like a jerk with a 'baby on board'.
Can't help it, it's the Bostonian in me.

I don't have one on my car and I don't intend to get one for my next car, even though I'll be carrying two LO's. For me, it's just a silly little thing, kinda like those stickers along the back glass for families. Sure, there are some really funny versions of those families but for the most part it just seems silly, superfluous.
