I'm going to a baby shower this weekend for a friend of mine. It's her third baby, so I'm not entirely sure what to get her. She obviously has most baby things she needs. She has a boy and a girl already, and this time is leaving the gender a surprise. I was thinking of just some diapers since you can always use plenty of those, but it's a little boring. Any other suggestions for something fun but also useful and gender neutral?

I've never heard of a baby shower for a third baby. Is there a big gap in age?
Some helpful things would be: new bottles or nipples, new burp clothes, diapers, wipes, new bath towels, new pacifiers, etc. Things that get used a lot.

I vote diapers with a new teether or wubbanub as a gift topper.

@schubro3 me neither until this month. This is actually my second one this month for a third baby, and no, neither one had a big age difference. I thought it was kind of weird and came VERY close to not bringing a present last time, because I thought it was just a party basically. Then I realized calling it a baby shower meant presents were probably expected, and I was right. I'm pregnant with my second and it never occurred to me to have another baby shower so I definitely think it's a little weird. those are good suggestions though.
@rattles that's the sort of thing I'm thinking I'll do...diapers plus something sort of cute, like a wubbanub. Diapers are so useful but I enjoy getting something cute/fun as well.

I have 2 boys 20 months apart so DS2 really needed nothing BUT some things I just really wanted new for him were bibs, bath towels, crib sheets, socks, Nose Frida, and loveys/stuffed animals of his own.

Something personalized just for the new baby, they deserve something that's not hand me down! To that end, I'd do an IOU for either a personalized blanket or one of those name puzzle stools.

In our group of friends when someone has a second or third baby we just throw a big (co-ed) party to celebrate. We use it as an excuse to just have a fun night with friends and everyone just bring a box a diapers.

What about a "self care" type item for the mom? For situations like this I've given diapers plus things like fancy peppermint foot lotion, a short term subscription to Spotify or Netflix, or even a gift certificate for a meal delivery / takeout service.

I'd stick to her registry if she created one. Otherwise diapers and wipes sounds like a good gift. Do you know her preferred brands?

Zutano (I think that's the brand) slippers are adorable, and a nice muslin swaddle would be things I'd appreciate (but I bought them for myself since I don't want a shower for LO2).
Other than that, I'm sure diapers & wipes would be appreciated. We cloth diapered ... are disposable diaper parents picky about the brand? If so, I'd check to see what she prefers.
Ultimately, if she has a registry, I'd stick to that.

For something different, you could give some age-appropriate items that her older children could use when the baby arrives. I've done things like stickers, scratch books, water wow, color wonder, or anything else they could do (mostly) by themselves. That keeps the older ones busy so she can focus on the newborn!

Definitely diapers and something special for the new baby. I'm sure he/ she will get a lot of hand me downs, so maybe a beautiful stuffed animal or really lovely soft blanket?

I'm 9 months into my second baby and it seems like I can never have enough burp cloths or bibs. Or of course diapers.

I would get swaddle blankets and a lovey or special toy.. every baby deserves their own special stuff! I love babies and going to showers and wouldn’t really mind that it was for a third baby. But I might not spend as much as I would for a first baby since by now the mom would have pretty much everything!
I had two boys close in age and then 3 years later had a girl. My mom threw me a “sprinkle” this summer when the baby was one month old. It was an intimate gathering of close friends and family and almost everyone got her clothes
It was a nice way for the family to meet the baby and for her to get some girly stuff. It wasn’t at all like an official shower I don’t think .. I didn’t register or get any big ticket items. I made sure to send everyone really nice personalized thank you cards with a pic of the baby after bc I was so afraid of ppl thinking it was tacky to have a party for a 3rd baby -
@ottilie: I would check if she has a registry and if not then do diapers plus something cute, or something like teething mitts that are useful but not something a third time mama might splurge on. I say this as someone pregnant with her third who did not keep all the baby stuff (though we aren't having a shower either.)

A nice bath towel. The ones that have animal heads from PB Kids are so nice!

@ottilie: How about some new baby item that might not have been out since their other kids. Like a Gathre mat. Or a kickee pants (which just started making more gender neutral ones). I like the bath towel idea, also! I received a Little Giraffe towel and its hands down the best size.

I do something for mom! Manicure, massage, gift card for books, etc.
