How late is too late to have a baby shower? My sister-in-law is planning a shower for me and we are looking at dates in the fall. There seem to be a lot of scheduling conflicts in the way that would prevent us from having it too far before baby is due to arrive and she will also be scheduling her travel to come to us (she's in CA, we are in NJ).
How many weeks before your due date do you think it's best to have a shower? And how many weeks away is just too soon?

I threw a shower for my friend 6 weeks before her due date and my shower was also 6 weeks before my due date. I think ideally, 4-8 weeks before the due date is good. 3 weeks before is a bit tight and 2 weeks before might be exhausting.

@Rubies: I have only thrown one shower (for my sister-in-law!) and we did that about 10 weeks before she was due, just based on our timing. The dates we are looking at now would be 7 weeks out or alternatively, based on the only other availability, 4 weeks out. A bit nervous to go that close, but the later date MIT be a better fit for my family.

I had mine two months (around my 7th month) before I had my first. You don't want to do it too late so you have time to figure out what else you need after your baby shower.

I think whenever you can work it out is fine. My BFF had her shower at 5 months because she didn't want to be to close to Christmas or when the jan/feb terrible weather is upon us.

Both of my showers are next weekend when I'll be 36.5 weeks. It's a little later than I would have liked personally but it worked best for everyone else to do it then and I'm sure it will be fine. Ideally I would have had it around 34 weeks.

I'm having my shower at 29 weeks. Mainly so early because I have to fly and I didn't want to be super uncomfortable. My other shower (here where I live) will probably be around 31 or 32 weeks.

My last shower is in a couple weeks and I'll be 34 weeks. My first one was at 28 weeks and was great--allowed me to get stuff together in nursery and adjust anything on my registry. I was definitely exhausted even at 28 weeks though! Not later than 4 weeks before DD I would think.

My shower was 6 weeks before. I think 4-8 weeks before is ideal!

My first shower, I will be 27 weeks which I think is on the early side, but it is a trip up north and this is the date that worked for everyone up there...
My second shower, I will be 32 weeks, which I think is also on the early side, but will be glad to know that I have 8 weeks following to finish out our inventory as necessary

One is planned for when ill be about 36 weeks. There are probably going to be 1-2 more but I don't know the dates of those yet

honestly, i think you should do what you're comfortable with. i don't think there such a thing as "too early." i think earlier is better, so you'll have an idea of what you'll still need. if you wait until 2 weeks before your due date to have the shower, you'll be running around at the last minute (no fun!).

My shower was for 5 weeks before my due date and DS came 6 weeks early and was a guest at his own shower.

I had mine at 27 weeks, just because that's when it worked out best (travel was a major factor in planning mine). So, I think it doesn't really matter when you have it as long as you don't wait toooo close to 40 weeks.

I had mine at 33 weeks. I wanted enough time to take things back, buy out the rest of the registry, and put the nursery together, wash clothes, put big things together, etc. Without feeling rushed.

I had mine today (about 35 weeks). I would have preferred it be just a little bit earlier, but mostly because I've hit a point where I'm hot, exhausted and overall uncomfortable. I actually snuck off and took a short nap (after only family was left)!
But I still feel like we have enough time to get the rest of what we need from the registry, return things, wash clothes and diapers and finish putting the nursery together.

My shower was 5 days before LO arrived. It was great and I felt fine!
