So I just went to the doctor and baby is in a frank breech position (where the baby is butt down and is in a V-shape with the feet near the head). I am only 27 weeks so there is still a lot of time for baby to turn, but my doctor said that it is the hardest to turn from this position because the baby has to get its legs around its butt and it is tight in there. Did anyone else have their baby in this position earlier on and have it turn by itself ? She said if it doesn't turn, c-section is necessary.

DD was frank breech; she ended up turning by 32/33 weeks. Have you checked out http://www.spinningbabies.com? It's a website with a bunch of home exercises you can do to encourage your baby to turn. I don't know for sure if it helped, but I did several of the exercises pretty regularly, and DD did turn, so I guess it doesn't hurt to try!

Butterbean was incomplete breech (one foot up/one foot down) for quite a while, but at my last appointment (33 weeks, I hit 35 weeks tomorrow) she was head down.

No advise but am going to follow this. LO was breech at the anatomy scan and despite asking my OB if he could give me an idea of position at my appt he just says we'll get an ultrasound at 36w to determine size and position. I'm currently 33w and the uncertainty is driving me mad.

At times I'm pretty sure LO has turned because I'm feeling kicks up near my ribs but then I also wonder if LO is transverse because I get a pushing out feeling only on my right side often which my OB has confirmed is not related to the anterior placement of my placenta but is more likely the baby's butt or head pushing out.

@PurrpleTulips: I have gotten some weird bumps/kicks on my lower right side, too. The really weird ones involve feeling something under my left ribs while simultaenously feeling another bulge on my lower right side. It's like she's yawning/stretching out in there.

@JessLC: My SIL had a Frank breech baby that never turned even with ECV, so she had an elective c-section, but her aunt delivered her Frank breech baby vaginally.... I don't think hospitals allow that anymore though.

My LO was frank breech. I tried exercises from spinningbabies.com to no avail and an ECV wasn't recommended as my amniotic fluid was slightly low at the u/s that determined LO's position. Both my midwife and OB said that a vaginal delivery for a baby in the frank breech position was less risky than the other breech positions as the bum is similar in size to the baby's head and shoulders.
We elected to have a c-section though and I don't regret that decision at all!

My baby was in that position as well and she did not turn. She was wedged in there good and it took some efforts to get her out via c-section as well.

thanks for all the input ladies! hopefully she will turn on her own and i will definitely check out spinningbabies.com. of course, i read up all about breech births online today and scared myself with all the stupid and inflammatory information that i found. ugh. why do i keep doing that when i know i shouldn't?

I did spinning babies and LO turned from transverse at 28 to head down!!

you can always try acupuncture... I've heard it can definitely get them to turn.
