anyone take a babymoon?
we're hoping to take a 3 or 4 day mini-trip sometime in november or december, but we're just in the planning stages now. we're not sure what kind of trip we want to take, but i'm thinking probably somewhere no farther than a few hours from here.
if you took a babymoon, what was your trip like? how far along were you? any tips/advice/suggestions?

I really really wanted to go somewhere warm and tropical! Unfortunately airfare was just way too much.

me too! i'd love to go sit under an umbrella somewhere by clear water. airfare is ridiculous. i even looked at cruises, but i'll be too far along.
we're thinking of embracing the winter and renting a cozy place, and doing christmasy things (plus, i'm obsessed with christmas!).

We'll be taking a long weekend in Palm Beach in October at about 24-25 weeks. I can't wait.

We rented a cabin for our babymoom about an hour away from where we live on a big lake nearby. I'll be about 30 weeks along. We are going to relax, cook, hang with our pup, and use to hot tub (ill just stick my feet in). It is also our one year wedding anniversary as well, so we are celebrating that too.

We went to Costa Rica and Miami in December. I was between 5 and 6 months.

We were going to do one until I found out I was having twins... then I wasn't comfortable traveling very far.
We did an overnight trip to Atlantic City around 26 weeks and we're going to a wedding down the shore this coming Friday and staying overnight. I'll be almost 35 weeks at that point!

We just got back from our Babymoon/final vacation as a family of 3; I was 32w yesterday. We went to Mackinac Island, Michigan. Aside from the 8hr car ride (one way) it was very nice and relaxing time. We walked around the island, enjoyed the horse drawn carriages (no cars are allowed on the island), ate very well and relaxed. We would have enjoyed exploring more but I was hesitant to ride a bike since not pregnant I'm a little unsteady on them due to an accident when I was in my teens and fears of falling again.
We are already planning to go back, possibly next year as a family of 4.

@Andrea: i'd love to go to costa rica!
i think we've decided on a place! my husband doesn't want to go further than an hour or two since i'll be 7 months pregnant, and it's our first. we're going to go up to a super nice resort in colonial williamsburg for a few days, and enjoy all of the christmas stuff they have going on in december (parades, grand illumination, christmas fair, christmastown at busch gardens, etc). it's perfect for us since i'm obsessed with christmas! 
plus, the resort has a nice spa and pools, and the unit has a big cozy fireplace and its own hot tub!

Probably not. We already had a vacation scheduled for in August to St Thomas. I will be 10 weeks then. DH usually goes skiiing with the guys for a week the first of the year. If we do anything it will just be a weekend away.

we took a babymoon when i was about 18-weeks along. it was a 5-day trip to hawaii and it was just what we needed! i was not too far along where i felt uncomfortable and well past the first trimester so feeling great! i still got to do all the excursions i wanted like hiking, kayaking, and snorkeling.

@photojane: hey fellow feb mama! your babymoon sounds so relaxing and festive...I am in love with christmas too.
Hubs and I are going to Barcelona and Paris for our babymoon / 2nd year wedding anniversary in Oct. I'll be 21 weeks along. I hope the flights will be bearable, and will definitely be choosing an aisle seat so I can move around lots.

i would love to, but i have to wait on DH's school schedule. the only time to go would be around christmas/new year's and i would be almost 37w!

@photojane Colonial Williamsburg sounds like a nice choice. You may not be able to take advantage of the hottub though
We're probably going to Cancun next month on a babymoon.
It's all-inclusive and it seems like such a waste that I wont be able to drink...but we have a free hotel suite there so will just need to cover the airfare.

@birdofafeather: is there anywhere nearby you could go? even just staying in a hotel 30 or 45 minutes away for a few days could be nice and relaxing before baby comes.
@travelingbrit: not planning on getting all the way in the hot tub unless we turn it down. my doctor said if you keep the water at body temperature you're okay, but i won't be spending a whole lot of time in there. cancun sounds awesome! i'd love to go somewhere hot and tropical.

@photojane: I don't know....I'm envious of you. I'm in Florida so it's always hot and tropical (or raining). I would love to be somewhere with a warm fire and a cool breeze.

We went on a sort of "forced" last minute babymoon a few weeks ago. We were supposed to head out East for a friend's wedding. We were going to fly into Boston and make the drive to the wedding site. Unfortunately, the wedding was canceled a few weeks in advance so we just decided to keep our flights to Boston and stay there. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to plan on what we were going to do and sort of winged it as neither of us had been there before.
Boston is a great city but it's a walking city. Normally I'd be all over this but at 5 mos and with hot and humid temps, I was miserable. DH loved this vacay as it was right up his alley. We took a tour of Fenway, went to Sam Adams brewery and he loves all of the historical sites in Boston. This was also our first vacation together that didn't involve checking out the local bars and enjoying the nightlife.
I'm guessing that next year I'll be planning a tropical getaway whenever we feel comfortable leaving our LO with his grandparents.

I know tons of folks who went to Puerto Rico on their babymoon (from the northeast). It's close enough for a long weekend (3.5 hr non-stop flight), very easy to travel around cause it's US (same money, no worries about food/water contamination, easy to rent a car, etc), but tropical (El Yunque rainforest, Vieques, etc) and good healthcare available if there's an emergency. It's not inexpensive, but probably on part with other parts of the Caribbean.

We're taking one next week--we're going up to Woodstock, NY for a week. I'll be 28 weeks. We're super excited to get out of the city and relax for a while.

I just introduced DH to the term "babymoon" this weekend and said we HAD to take one : ). I think we've decided on Seattle. Since we'll be flying, we're doing it in August (I'm due in Jan). The holidays are too crazy anyway and I'm a teacher, so I better have fun while I'm still off!

i have a couple more weeks until DH gets his school schedule and then we can plan something! i've been wanting to go to palm springs together for a long time, but i keep planning trips with my girlfriends for bachelorette parties, etc. fun times, but not the same!
