If you didn't go on a babymoon before your first, why didn't you, and how do you feel about it looking back now?
I'm due in April and we probably aren't going on any kind of babymoon (finances, busyness, etc.), and I'm not too upset about it. But people are encouraging us to do it, and I want to know that we're not the only ones bucking the trend! Also, we are planning on NOT traveling for a long time.

We had already gone on vacation that year, so we couldn't take more time off. I was around 7 weeks along.

we were gifted a trip for our wedding back in february but had no vacation left for the rest of the year so we planned to go this upcoming january, pre baby planning/pregnancy. if we hadn't been gifted the trip, there is no way we would have taken one! so you're not alone!

We didn't go on a babymoon and we didn't miss it. We planned all along to travel with our LO though. We went through with that plan and took him on a 7 week transatlantic trip at 5 months. (Hooray for the local parental leave laws).

I didn't go on a babymoon and I regret it. We didn't go because work was busy, I didn't think we needed one, and we just never got around to planning it. Now that we have our LO I regret not going away when we had the chance. We are on the baby's schedule so it's hard to do anything for ourselves. I'm too tired to have a decent conversation with my SO most days. A babymoon would have been a nice time for us to relax and enjoy each other before all the sleepless nights and demands of a baby.

We didn't have time... also we are not be vacation people. Kind of home bodies. 
Though sometimes we wished we had because it is so much easier to travel without a little kid in tow.
Can you do something super mini? Like a bed and breakfast a few hours away?

We planned on it (I'm a little over 13 weeks), but I've been so incredibly sick that I don't think we'll be able to travel. Annnd we're going into winter, which can be rough around our areas, so I don't really see us going to a nice warm spot in January or February (and I can't travel past March anyways). So, oh well. Maybe we'll plan a staycation or something when I feel better!

We actually traveled a ton the year I was pregnant...but I think that was before babymoons became a thing.

@Bao: Same for us. But a weekend getaway to a beautiful city an hour away isn't too far from the realm of possibility... But it's still money, so would it be worth it?? Hard to know...
@looch: We did have a nice Puerto Rico trip last year thanks to DH's work. But he was mostly working...

@Pumuckl: DH is pretty set on not traveling with our LO until he's old enough to remember the trip, i.e., a lloooong time. Hmm...
@Pumpkin Pie: That's exactly what I'm afraid of! I know that it costs money, but we don't know what life with a LO will be like. How do you put value on something (savoring childless time together) when you don't know how much you'll miss it?? Sigh...
@Raindrop: If we did end up doing something, it would definitely be something super-mini. I would want to stay at a hotel in a beautiful city just an hour away from our home and spend a nice weekend. But even that costs money, so...

We did with our first, not our second. By the time the holiday's are done and over with we are only a couple months away and just don't have the time (or money) to go anywhere.

@dc yoga bee: We're in the NE, so yeah, going somewhere warm is gonna be way to expensive for us! Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon and a staycation will work!
@lamariniere: Yeah, when did babymoons become a thing??? I think I only first heard about it two or so years ago.

we couldn't afford to go. we had a weekend away camping, but no beach vacation. I wish we had only because we hadn't been married that long and our only luxury vacation together ever was our honeymoon, so it would have been nice to do one more. If we had been vacationing for years together (instead of being in grad school for example), i probably would have cared less.

I was pregnant. The last thing I wanted to do was go on vacation. I want to go on vacation when I can enjoy fruity, alcoholic beverages by the poolside. I also didn't want to think about a bathing suit. Totally not my style, this babymoon thing.

We definitely didn't go on a babymoon before #1 but we did for #2. With #1 money was VERY tight and DH didn't have many vacation days so it wasn't possible. Looking back I wish we would have scraped up some cash and gone for even a weekend somewhere nearby. It's really hard to get time away after having a baby!
With #2 we went to Mexico for 5 days and it was awesome! I was about 20 weeks along - the perfect time for a trip.

We decided to put our babymoon money towards a DSLR to take pics of the baby, so we didn't take one. We did have a staycation, though--we stayed overnight at a hotel downtown, went out to a nice dinner, ordered room service for breakfast. It was really nice to "get away" and was cheaper than a babymoon would've been. I feel like when you stay in a hotel you kinda feel like you're on vacation no matter where you are

We didn't do it and I don't regret it. I figure we can have a fun anniversary trip someday when I'm not pregnant and can really enjoy our time away.

We were sort of "forced" to go on one since a wedding we were supposed to go to in Maine was canceled. We were going to fly into Boston and drive the rest of the way so we ended up just going to Boston. I was around 5 months along and it was in the summer so it was crazy hot and humid. DH is a huge history buff so he loved going on all of the walking tours but I was miserable the whole time. I'm used to going on vacations where you can relax and have cocktails. I couldn't do either on this trip. That being said, I wouldn't have been upset if we hadn't gone somewhere. I would have liked to go on the babymoon before we got pregnant but DS was an oops baby so we couldn't have planned that.

We didn't go away because DD would be born at the end of the year, and with my work's maternity leave policy, I had to save as much of my vacation days as I could to stay home as long as possible in the early months.
We did take a vacation without her right before she turned 2, and THAT was the best thing ever. She was old enough that I didn't have to worry about her eating/sleeping, and she was getting to be so busy, I could really enjoy the break.

@californiadreams: We've been together for many years, but almost every time we travel it's for family (weddings, funerals, etc.). No fun! I'd be totally up for a staycation, but even that's gonna be difficult...
@mediagirl: Yeah, I don't think I really need anything tropical or even warm (even though I am totally a beach girl). I just wanna stay in a hotel and wear fuzzy robes and get room service!
@coopsmama: I'm 22 weeks now, and yes, I feel like right now would be a perfect time for a trip! Even something close by...

I doubt we will go on a baby moon. DH and I went to Mexico this last May, and got pregnant in Sept, so I'm pretty sure our Mexico trip was our last hoo-rah!

@ineebee: we're going to Costa Rica i'm adopted & my biological dad lives there and has a beach front condo soooo he gifted us a trip there... so then he gets to see us too! This will be maybe the fourth of fifth time he's flown me down but first for my husband. and he's giving us spending money, use of his condo & a company car! soooo we're very lucky! although most of the stuff i wanted to do (hot springs, monkey rehabilitation centre, zip lining, drinking) i won't be able to do! so it woulda been much more fun as a non babymoon trip!

We jut didn't get around to it before Miss A was born but I'm incredibly keen to get away with just DH before "Squish" arrives at the end of March. I'm yet to spend a night away from our toddler (we're still nursing) and we're not going to have many opportunities once we have two children so hopefully we can make it happen in February.

@ineebee: We just wanted to spend that time as family to really bond and not worry about the daily grind and that's exactly what we got. We LOVED that trip and it was the perfect age to take LO.

Didn't go on one. I can't say I regret it, but I can say that it would have been nice just to get away SOMEWHERE, just for a holiday. we don't take a lot of holidays for financial reasons and it's something I'd love to do generally (not because I need a babymoon or honeymoon or anything like that).

@ineebee: If you can swing it, I would recommend going away, even if its just to a hotel, relaxing, getting room service, walking around, going out to dinner, etc. Something to make it feel like its just about you guys. Laugh, talk, be in love. Once you have a baby in the picture, doing anything just the 2 of your will be harder. And, depending on your LO's temperament, it could be really rough for you, or manageable. I say, if you do a getaway, you wont regret it. But, if you don't do one, you may regret it. So, choose the option you are least likely to regret.

We were lucky and got pregnant on the first try with our DS....it was 3 months before our wedding. We canceled our actual honeymoon and didn't go on a babymoon. We wanted to save everything we could for the baby. We were sad that we didn't get a 1 on 1 vacation before baby.

With #1 we took a weekend trip two hours away. With this pregnancy we got pregnant on vacation so I doubt we'll do anything else indulgent. Both times we plan to fly to the in-laws and while that is time off from work I don't consider it a babymoon at all.

Financial reasons. When DD1 was born we had no reliable babysitters so she was well over 1 before we went on our first date sans baby. So yes, I really wished we would've been able to. If you have no issues with reliable babysitters then I don't think it's a big deal.

I have a work conference in Florida early February so we're turning that into a babymoon-sorta since it's just DH's flight and the hotel (well, and everything else...). I don't know what we would have done otherwise, if anything?

@ineebee: We went on a babymoon and I wish we'd just stayed home! We booked a beach trip before I got pregnant. I was like 2 months along when we went. I had morning sickness and I was at the bloated gross stage of pregnancy.
What I wish we'd done is taken a weekend and did a "staycation" of just hanging out at home watching movies, going out to brunch, etc. That would have been way more fun and relaxing and cheaper!

I think it's all about the timing post-baby of if you'll regret not going on a babymoon or not. In the first 4 months post baby you will definitely regret not going because you will hold onto your dreams of your pre-baby life when you could sleep in and not do anything. But once you get in the swing of things and develop a schedule and start feeling more adjusted at being a mom, you won't care if you went on a babymoon or not.

We didn't go on a babymoon because it wasn't really financially feasible for us at the time. I didn't regret it, but I am regretting not being able to go on one for the same reason this time. Once you have a kid you have NO time for yourself so it's really nice to get away, but you don't really realize that until you have kids, lol. I think if you're not doing a babymoon maybe think about even a night out on the town with your DH (you could do dinner, maybe even stay at a hotel) and just enjoy each other. It doesn't have to be the Bahamas (even if we'd like it to be).

I mean... it's pretty unnecessary overall. We didn't, I don't regret it.... I honestly never knew it was a "thing" until HB.
