If you live in a humid climate, did you find babywearing difficult in the summer months? We live in Florida and I'm already nervous about how horrible it might be for him, pressed up against me in a black baby carrier... It's already humid and it's only January! But then I figure, the carriers must be somewhat breathable, right? We have a Boba.

I found my SSC's to be hot and sweaty for me and baby. We are the coolest in ring slings

The performance Ergo is supposed to be more breathable than the regular Ergo.

@ladyfingers: I wore my baby almost every day in the NYC hot & sticky summer. If you are ok with being a hot sweaty mess, than it's ok. My LO didn't seem to mind being sweaty or the fact that I was sweating all over her.
But I looked a mess. My entire shirt would be drenched.

@ladyfingers: oops, i misread. Baby distraction! I still wore my baby, but i put a towel between us so she didnt get too sweaty.

DH insisted on the Bjorn Air for that exact reason, since we're in SoFlo...Everything else that we tried at BBB was not very breathable and had way too much fabric. He wouldn't even try some of them on...

Baby wearing is very warm no matter when you do it! It was a little sweaty sometimes, but not unbearable. Honestly, because it was so hot and sticky, I just didn't wear my newborn a ton outside. Short walks and trips to the store were about it.
ETA: We don't have a Boba, but we have a black Beco Butterfly II which has an extra interior panel. It wasn't so warm that I absolutely wouldn't wear her.

@ladyfingers: Honestly, that kind of carrier is a little more suited for older babes anyway. Once he's older you won't worry so much :). Maybe you could find a fairly cheap linen ring sling at a local consignment store? Or maybe on the Babywearer forums. If you really love baby wearing, it won't be a bad investment. I have 4 carriers and they all get used!

@Weagle: Well the whole reason we chose that carrier was because it is supposed to work well for newborns and children up to 45 pounds. The carrier can be adapted for newborns without an insert... so I really was hoping to be able to wear him in that around 6 weeks or so. I specifically didn't want to have to buy a bunch of different carriers and don't really love the idea of a ring sling.

IDK I guess I'll just have to wing it. I'm pretty attached to the idea of babywearing.

@ladyfingers: I'm very attached to the idea of babywearing too, and my LO is due in July/Aug. I'm hoping that I'll be able to deal with a k'tan for the first few months until he/she is big enough for an ergo or beco gemini, by which time it won't be so hot here either. I don't love the idea of a sling either-- I have a bad back so it doesn't seem like a great option for me.

@ladyfingers: It may work really well for you! You won't know until you try. I just found it to be kind of awkward to carry her in our SSCs before when she was really small. Though, our Beco is set up like the Boba, and we got it once she had outgrown the insert. It could have been awesome.
I think that when it gets unbearable, he will be at an age that it won't matter so much. He'll be more alert and interested in what's going on around him, so it will be much easier to tell if he's overheating. If you will be outside for hours, it might be a bit much. If not, I think you'll be fine. I did most of my baby wearing indoors during the summer.

@Weagle: OK that makes sense! Yeah, we can't even stand being outside in the summertime, so I think this would be more like, we're inside at the aquarium or the mall or the grocery store or something. I just started thinking about it today because it's so dang hot!
