I feel like a total grinch but I didn't love this commercial. Maybe it's because I'm not a SAHM? I don't know, although I think it was gorgeously shot I couldn't get past the, "hey hard-working moms, no matter where you live, buy our dish soap" vibe.
I guess living in Mexico I get enough of the self-sacrificing mother thing. It doesn't always seem so heroic to me.
See? I am a total grinch.

@sloaneandpuffy: hehe. It wasn't really the whole "being a mom is tough" angle that made me cry.. in fact, not at all. (oops! sorry, ad execs.) It was the kids celebrating with their moms as they performed in the Olympics and the looks on both their faces... the moms being so overwhelmingly proud and the kids being so thankful and owing so much to the moms' dedication.

@mrs. wagon: I mentioned this on the other thread, but I was amazed that an ad could call being a mom both the hardest job in the world and the best job in the world... and not mention dads once.
Can you imagine if someone made a video about how being a dad was the hardest but the best job in the world, and didn't mention moms? Everyone would be in a uproar.
If this ad was about Mother's Day or something, then I could understand what they were thinking. But as it is, I must be missing something.

@mrbee: hm. True that. Did they even show the dads there with the moms? I was too busy tearing up at the emotional moms.

@mrs. wagon: I think in one scene, there may be a dad off to the side? Not sure. Dads are very conspicuously absent from the video in general.

@mrbee: I guess since it's a P&G commercial (hence the dishwashing scenes) it's geared towards moms? Interesting.

@mrbee: just showed DH and he said the same exact thing! id be lhing if I said it didnt make me all weepy though!!
Ever notice how Dad/husband is always portrayed as some idiot who cant do anything on his own too? Drives DH batty!

@mrs. wagon: Maybe. In any case, I was indifferent on their brands but now I actively dislike them.

@Nskillet: @mrbee: I think ad companies do this because it makes moms laugh, and that's the audience they're targeting. Sometimes you can just tell when a company's ad execs are 50+ years old.

@mrs. wagon: youre so right!!! The commercial still got me, I was crying lol

@Nskillet: Yup, the media's portrayal of fathers leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully things will change in our generation, for the sake of my and your DH's sanity!

I agree about it being the hardest, yet best job. But, truly the only reason I'm as successful as I am at it is because of the partnership DH and I have. I'm a little sad to see dad's not represented in the video. Shoot, when it comes to extracurricular activities for LO (currently swim lessons), DH is the one that gets in the water with him and has yet to miss a lesson. Some of the times I stay home to just have me time. So, my point is, great parents, a mother and/or father should be represented in the video. Being a mother doesn't automatically make you a great parent.

@Nskillet: @mrbee: Oh I totally agree. I think men in general are bullied publicly. Ever watch a talk show; women will bash men for the entire hour and the whole audience whoops and nods in agreement. If that were EVER to happen vice versa - men bashing women on TV - there would be libel lawsuits galore. It's sick to me. (sorry, hope this wasn't threadjacking.... I loved the commercial too, definitely made me smile!)

@mrbee: I noticed the dad thing too.
Makes me want to go hug my kids though!
