My OB talked to me about it at my 6 week pp check up. The mini pill is a popular one, but I decided against BC since I was exclusively nursing.

EBF can act as a natural form of BC, but once babies start sleeping through the night and eating solids it's not as effective.
I got my period back at 7 months pp and got pregnant again right after LO's 1st birthday.. I was still nursing too!

Argh I don't know what to do about this either! I don't want to go on the pill, and we keep saying we will "use condoms" but we never do. I guess I can't say "I don't know how it happened" if I end up with Irish twins, lol!

My OB asked me today at my 6 week pp appointment if I wanted birth control and I said no. I am producing just enough milk to feed M, I don't need to worry about my supply dropping. We will use condoms for now as our bc. Also, it is laughable that we would have sex anytime soon. We're both so tired all the time and our lo is still in our room. We'll see. For now though, it would be condoms. Once I'm no longer breastfeeding, I'll go back to the patch.

We're relying on condoms, breastfeeding, and prayers. Though we wouldn't be devastated if we had a surprise

I'm planning on getting Mirena. I could barely remember to take a pill before we started trying, I can't imagine remembering with a baby, and we definitely don't want another baby anytime soon. I want something as foolproof as possible!

@lydg: This topic was discussed in my prenatal class, then at the 2 week check-up my doc said to think about what I want to do by my 2 month check up. I was 'for sure' going to go on the mini-pill. But now that I have LO, I have second-guessed that because I don't want to give him artificial hormones through my milk. LO is 3 months old and I am EBF, but we still are very careful in other ways. If I did get pregnant, even though it is not our plan, we would be so happy.

@chopsuey119: um... EBF is NOT a method of contraception. Even if you don't have your period I know WAY TOO many people who got pregnant thinking they were safe.

Sorry... I just don't want anyone to get pregnant thinking they were safe.

@Mrs. Sunglasses: yes, many people have gotten pregnant bc they thought EBF was good enough. Every doctor (my OB, my primary care doc and our pediatrician) really emphasized that EBF was not an effective form of birth control. My friend got pregnant with twins while she was EBF her 8 month old...of course she loves her babies and wouldn't change anything but she made sure to not to assume BF was good enough the second time around

@Mrs. Sunglasses: I actually learned that it is (if nursing around the clock exclusively) and as long as baby isn't being supplemented and eating solids.. proved true in my case!

If you definitely DO NOT want another pregnancy anytime soon, then yeah, taking the pill or getting on some from of contraceptive is a must. DH and I were open to having another baby at any time so we just went au naturel.

They didnt ask me this at the hospital. My doctor asked me at my 6 week appointment though. currently just using condoms since I am breastfeeding
