I hate exchanging gifts with my parents. I feel like I am always getting them generic stuff -- though they seem to love it -- and they always buy me stuff I don't like and then nag to see if I am using it.

Once this pregnancy is a little further along, I am going to ask them if we can each take the gift money we would normally spend on each other and put it into the baby's college fund instead. I have been looking for an excuse to stop exchanging gifts with them for years.

Note: My husband and I don't exchange gifts with each other. We are just not big gift people. It feels like an obligatory, meaningless interaction to me. We just do nice things for each other on an ad hoc basis instead.
