Breastfeeding mamas-- what do you do for birth control?

After DD1, nothing. I EBF and got pregnant at 10.5 months pp.

After DD2, condoms. I ended up getting pregnant sooner than we planned and we will be taking permanent BC measures after this baby.

I am on the mini pill. I'd been on bc pills for many years before ttc & they work well for me. I'm not yet thru my 1st pack, so no idea what to expect period-wise. I would've been ok with no bc given we are bf'ing, my age & the 10mos it took to get pg to begin with, but DH wasn't.

I'm on the mini pill right now and think it's making me crazy. I have 0 sex drive and fly into fits of rage pretty regularly over things like my husband boiling the wrong noodles...

I'd like to switch to the regular pill since I've never had problems with that (I'm not able to get an iud due to some medical problems) but I'm afraid about my milk drying up- the doctor says this usually doesn't happen if you have a good supply, anyone have experience? Or anyone recommend a really good condom? We've never used them long term before and we pretty much hate them.

Mirena. But I don't love and since I'm done, I'm starting to think about when I want my tubes done.

I want two semi-close together, and went with Mirena. It's worth it to me even if I only keep it a year since it's fully covered by insurance, nothing to remember each day, and doesn't mess with my supply. It was an extra plus that insertion was painless, and took 30 seconds. It's been 3 weeks, minor cramping here and there, and some spotting which the doctor told me could last for four weeks.

I'm taking the mini pill and did the same with #1, with seemingly no issues. I'm wondering from reading the above comments if it's effecting my moods though, as I do seem to have some serious mood swings these days. Could be the 10 months of no sleep though too

Abstinence, pull and pray, or just went with it. Sexy time while breastfeeding wasn't comfortable at all no matter how much lube we used.

We wanted our LO's to be 2-2.5 years apart and I've never been on BCs before.

We didn't use anything after DD1 but avoided my fertile window.

Conceived DD2 at 15 months pp.

After DD2 we avoided my fertile window and had sex maybe six times pp once with out PNP on CD 31. DD3 will be not quite 13 months younger than DD2. We had been planning on TTC #3 around 9/10 months pp, got pregnant at four.

    Be careful out there.

We used PNP at first but then I got my period back at 2 months pp... started the mini-pill and haven't had my period since. I haven't noticed any issues with the mini-pill. Before pregnancy I used the nuvaring.

@oliviaoblivia: I didn't see that you're having another girl. Congratulations, Mama!!

And your last line cracks me up. I feel like sex PP is like the wild west: you never know what will happen!

@LovelyPlum: I'm still kind of amazed that we got pregnant when we did. I'm totally thrilled to be having this baby, but the timing isn't quite what I wanted.

At 8 mo pp, nothing! TMI, but since DD isn't a great sleeper, we're not going at it like rabbits anyway so I'm just taking a chance and so far so good! We plan for #2 to be within 2-3 yr gap so we probably will just go with condoms, or if I feel up to it, I'll chart to prevent (not that I even have my period back to do that right now).

@oliviaoblivia: fair enough. That is a lot of strain on your body. Wishing you good health as baby girl grows, and sending C lots of good sleep vibes!

I can't do hormonal BC, so I got a paragard (copper) IUD. Worked great for us, didn't affect my cycle, and we felt confident that we wouldn't get pregnant.

I used NFP between my kids.
@JCCovi: I don't think symptothermal (temping) would have worked for me because of the night feedings, but I was able to use Creighton without a problem. I will say that it was harder to read than pre-baby because of the uncertainty of when my cycles would return (I kept questioning my readings), but it was certainly workable. We wanted our kids about 2 years apart and they're 23.5 months apart.
