Not in NYC anymore, but I went to Downtown Women in Soho and delivered at NYU. They're a large group with all female doctors. With my pregnancy I had to see all of them and I can honestly say there was only one who I didn't like, and luckily she did not deliver LO. And in retrospect, she was heavily pregnant when I saw her so maybe she was just having an off day

ETA: Before I got pregnant (and my insurance changed) I went to Spring, also in Soho. They were fairly similar to Downtown Women (all female staff, deliver at NYU) and I liked them a lot.

@Aria: Aw, man. Yeah, Downtown is really popular and I remember I just barely made it in as a patient. I'll ask around and see if I can get some good suggestions from my friends who are still in the city.

@Aria: Congrats!!!! So excited for you. I use westcare medical. They are in manhattan and the obs there are all women. Love them. They are affiliated with St Lukes Roosevelt Hospital. If you are looking for something in brooklyn specifically let me know as my sister uses a brooklyn practice and delivered at Methodist.

@Aria: http://nyp.org/physician/rwong/ He's an amazing doctor, but I ended up switching to a birthing center because I didn't want a hospital birth. If I had known I was going to end up with a C-section I would him.

@Ctran: Can you send me the info for your sister's doctor? I am looking for a new OB/GYN in Brooklyn near my job and I work near Methodist.

Based on the research I did, I recommend against delivering at SLR. Don't be fooled by their birthing center.

In fact I recommend not delivering in Manhattan. In most other places you will get a private postpartum room. That way, your husband can room in with you, and you have privacy to get settled in as a family.

@Ctran: Awesome. I actually had them on the list to call, so now I have a name. Thanks! When we're ready to have another one we want to go with Methodist.

I went to Dr. Weinstein at Weill Cornell. She was great, but located on the UWS so not sure if that is too much of a trek for you.

@Aria: I delivered at NYU, and my Ob/gyn was part of NYU midtown OB. Even though my doctor delivers most of her patients, she was out of town when I went into labor, and I really loved the doc who ended up delivering me. I saw 3 out of 4 docs in the practice and highly recommend all of them. Wall me if you'd like the specific info or if you have questions about NYU.

@Modern Daisy: me too! I felt bad saying it but now that you have I'll second it. I actually just left westcare! I switched at 21 weeks because I was so unhappy there. But there was one doctor in particular that I had bad experiences with. Wall me who you had issue with!
I also have 2 other friends of friends who had issue with the same doc...one switched practices at 37 weeks because she was so afraid to deliver with her.

@modern daisy @sweetiepie curious as to the doctor that you didn't care for or why you hated the practice?

@Aria: congrats! I went to a practice in Midwood (Associates in Ob Gyn Care) and delivered at Maimonides. It was a very good experience. I was there recently though, and it seemed like the doctors are busier and it's a longer wait to see them.

I went to Dr. Theresa Peretta at Beth Isreal (Union Square location) and LOVED her. I sent a ton of my girlfriends to her too. I also delivered my DS at BI. They really encouraged breastfeeding and skin to skin and had excellent lactation consultants.
