Hubby's birthday and the of course, the holidays are fast approaching. I am now a SAHM and am thinking how awkward it will be to buy him gifts using 'his' money. What do other SAHM's do? Do you feel strange buying him gifts?

Nope, I don't feel strange at all. As far as we're concerned "his" money is "our" money. Yes, he's the only one actually working for a paycheck, but only because I'm staying home with our son.

When I was unemployed, so a "stay-at-home-wife", yes. I wouldn't feel at all guilty if I were a SAHM though, because you are still working and contributing.
I mean, if you weren't a SAHM, how much would you be spending on a nanny?
So you are financially contributing to the family, and his money is your money. No guilt there.

It's not his money, it's our money! At first it was weird because he's officially the one working for the money and earning the paycheck, but I work in my own way and save us money by not having to put LO in daycare. I know longer feel bad about it, I feel like I earn my keep around here.
I take cash out a little bit at a time so he doesn't notice a big chunk leaving the bank leading up to the gift buying, or sometimes my parents will give me some cash so I'll use that.

Thank you, ladies. I am having a hard time with it because I have always brought home a paycheck until our son came along, so this is foreign territory for me.

Nope, I don't feel weird about it anymore...as pps have said, it's our money. I just tell him not to check the credit card statement until after I give him the gift

I definitely wouldn't consider it his money, it's y'all's/you guys'/both of your money!

My mom stayed at home, but my parents had equal allowances. I think that helped them not think of it as his money. That being said....I find it funny, even with a shared account! Tell him how you feel. Maybe you can work out a gift budget or something.
