What flavor cake did you have for your baby's first birthday? I made a coconut loaf before and DS loved it so I made cupcakes from that recipe. Only problem is it didn't make very many so I need ideas for another flavor! There are going to be kids around 1-4 years old and adults. I have to make it tonight or tomorrow morning so I'm looking for something not overly complicated (like carrot cake). Is it too early in the season for pumpkin?

DD's was vanilla. Her 2nd birthday cake was chocolate.

@chopsuey: Thanks for the ideas! I was thinking chocolate but I thought maybe not a good idea for the little ones since it has caffeine? Do people really care about that?

Totally would have been fine with her eating an entire slice.I think I had strawberry cream cheese frosting for her cake!

We had chocolate cake... not gonna lie, mostly so it would show up in photos more. LOL. We also had strawberry shortcake (bday was in July).

@skipra: we just did a basic buttercream icing. LO loved the icing! He didn't eat too much of the actual cake...maybe a few bites at most.

I'm going to do a strawberry vanilla cake and banana cupcakes for people who don't want their LO to have the sugary boxed stuff.

@lindseykaye: the first time I tried it was at a cake testing for my wedding. It was so good, but both of my BILs have serious nut allergies so we couldn't use the flavor.
