I had some spotting yesterday so my OB had me come in. Everything is fine but the dr did mention that one of the babies has a possible calcium deposit on one of the valves of the heart.
I'm not that worried. She said she sees it now and then and I shouldn't worry about it. She even said it might go away. She said her own baby had it on the u/s and her LO was born normal.
Anyone have this?

There were spots on E's heart (and it was iffy that she had all 3 umbilical lines), so we had a fetal echocardiogram at 24 weeks, I think, to see if it deposits? They found nothing. Hope it's nothing for you, too!

Super common. Not a problem by itself, but it can be a marker of other problems like chromosomal abnormality. But if everything h else with babe looks fine (esp if you had some kind of genetic testing like a sequential screen) I wouldn't worry about it.

My LO had this and it turned out to be nothing. I think ultrasounds are sort of too powerful nowadays!

@Bluestriped bee thinking of you!! I'm 22 weeks - at 16 weeks they found an "echogenic bowel" on my ultrasound. Apparently you can have several different echogenic markers and bowel and heart are both common places to have them. I was so worried. My doctor ordered non-invasive prenatal testing which ruled out any chromosomal abnormalities. He has said he thinks it's extremely likely everything will be fine, which I am sure is the case with your babies as well! Hang in there

@MrsADS: Yeah, I think I will have further testing done to rule it out. At least that is what the OB said they will do.

H had an echogenic focus on her heart. She was fine at birth and afterward. We had two Level II ultrasounds to monitor the focus and her bilateral corneal plexus cysts (both of which resolved by 26 weeks).

Just chiming in to add that I went through the same thing.
I was so worried and the OB I was assigned to that day was so insensitive. She just handed DH and I an article from a medical journal about what it could mean and rudely said that since we opted out of genetic testing, there was nothing we could do that this point.
Anyway, everything turned out fine! I did my own research and found out that it's very common in Asians. And I ended up switching OB practices.

we had this with A. and also another one in her bowel. turned out to be nothing at all. dr wanted us to do an amnio to be sure, but we did a blood test instead which came back negative.

We had this (one echogenic focus) at the anatomy scan and were assured it was fine in the absence of anything else. (Our ultrasound tech and doctor said it was very common.) He's now 8 months old and healthy - no problems at birth or otherwise.

Yup - DS had this which they found at his 20 week anatomy scan. I'm Asian, and as other posters have said, common in moms of East Asian descent. It is considered a soft marker for Downs, though I think that's somewhat up in the air. Regardless, DS is perfectly healthy!

Most of the time it's nothing. I'm sure you've already googled the other possibilities, so I'll say it again. Most of the time it's nothing!
You'll probably get a little extra attention, but you were going to get that anyway due to the twin pregnancy

We had this as well with DD2 along with another soft marker concern. Everything wound up being fine and DD is perfectly healthy. We went for a follow up US and it was gone so obviously it was nothing

Yes, K had this and they monitored it, but just like my Ob said, it went away. Her own LO had it too. She said it was a bit common in Asians (and Her LO is mixed).

@avivoca: OK, you're turning up in all of my searches.... our anatomy scan turned up with an echogenic focus and choroid plexus cysts... seems like this happened to you too? all was well? i had the u/s 2.5 weeks ago - going back with MFM next week to do another u/s and walk through with him. I already had the Harmony Test which came back clear, my OB didn't seem too concerned but of course i'm worrying. We never had any issues with DS1, so this is new

@hellobeeboston: Hey! Yes, this happened to us. H is 19 months old and perfectly healthy. One of her cysts resolved by 22 weeks and the other resolved by 26 weeks. She had no other markers for chromosomal abnormalities. It's scary, I know. Keep me posted!

@avivoca: ok at 21 weeks, one cyst was gone and the other was barely noticeable! So that basically ends that, yay. Echogenic focus still there but no other issues, all looked good and we had harmony so I don't think downs is an issue either! Still dealing with a small cyst in his liver but hoping that will be either nothing or manageable.

@hellobeeboston: H's echogenic focus didn't disappear either and our MFM wasn't worried. I'm so glad you got great results!
