I'm partial to Camille. That's our girl name that we will use if we have a girl.

I love both, but choose Camille based on you not liking the nickname Maddie (it's the default people use and it seems dangerous to dislike the default) and the pronunciation point (she would have to correct at least 25% of time).

I voted for Madeleine but I don't love either.

I voted Camille, though I love them both. I know Madeleine is the traditional French spelling, but I think it would get misspelled all the time as Madeline is the more popular spelling...unless you're in Canada? Madeleine may be the more popular spelling there.

I prever Camille. Madeleine seems a bit too popular to me (not sure of its actual stats but I know sooo many of them) and I also the nicknames Cami and Millie.

I like both, but Camille is my favorite of the two. I agree with you. It is sweet and soft, but has substance. I also think what you said about the nickname makes sense. I do think Madison and Maddie have become very popular.

I pick Madeleine only because you said your last name starts with L. I think Camille L.... doesn't should that good.

We almost named Madeleine but, like you, I feared that the nickname "Maddie" would be unavoidable, and that was probably a good instinct: we now know several Madeleine/Madelines, all nicknamed Maddie. Camille is so much more uncommon; I definitely think that's a plus!

I prefer Madeleine, and I don't think the pronunciation would be that big of an issue. I don't like it when the first and last name run together, and I've known three Camilles, all of whom were snobby and stand-offish, which I now unfortunately associate with the name. Would you be interested in an alternate nickname? I love Madeleine nicknamed Lena, for example.

I voted Madeleine! love the name and it's French roots. When I think of Camille I think of Camille Grammar from Real Housewives Beverly Hills.... (sorry!)

I love them both but slightly prefer Camille. My grandma was Camilla Faye and I LOVE her name!

I voted Camille BUT it was actually pretty tough for me to decide. I like both equally and maybe Camille just a tiny tish more because it's less popular. I know a few Madeleines.

I prefer Madeleine. It's so pretty sounding but I do think both are beautiful classic names. I grew up with a Camille and she was always teased "chameleon" which made her turn bright red. I felt so bad for her. I have a niece named Madelyn and kids call her "mad Maddy" so basically kids are mean and will make up a nickname out of most names.

I like Madeline because it's feminine, but strong and has a nice classic sound to it.
