I'm going to a friend's sprinkle this weekend. My LO doesn't take a bottle well from dad and I'm afraid things will go badly if I leave both kids with him. I feel like I've heard that bringing a baby to a baby shower is rude and I definitely don't want to possibly draw attention away from the mom, but I'm not really sure what the standard is here. Is it considered bad etiquite to bring a baby to a baby shower? FWIW, the mom is super chill.

I think a sprinkle would be more likely ok, but I would ask as a courtesy. How long is the shower? I might just risk it and leave your lo with dad but that's just me!

How old is the baby? I'd clear it with the mom-to-be.

I'd also ask, but I always thought of baby showers as very baby-friendly events (they are celebrating babies, after all!).

I'd ask- but I expect that babies that are not walkers are welcome at technically adult events. The term I hear is "lap baby"

@babypugs: I would think as long as baby isn't mobile (or otherwise requiring a ton of attention the entire time) she's probably going to be ok with an 8 month old. It's not like you're introducing your brand new baby to everyone. That's the one I think people usually feel obligated to say yes to but secretly dislike.. at least from reading babycenter.

I've always attended baby showers where at least some guests are mothers of babies/young children and no one has ever batted an eye at them being present.

There have been babies at all of the baby showers I've been at recently, including my own! I don't think it's an issue

I was at a baby shower this weekend that had three four year olds. I think a baby would be fine.

I always ask first, but have brought my girls to every baby shower I've been invited to since I've had them. The moms to be have always at least acted happy to have them there. It's been my understanding and my experience that baby showers are kid friendly events.

I would ask. I asked once when lo was an infant and the hostess was very reluctant in her 'ok.' I ended up not going. I can kinda see both sides' opinions so I'd always ask if your child isn't on the invitation.
ETA I'm positive in some families/circles kids are always welcome but there are definitely people who want the mother-to-be to be the center of attention or just a more formal feel.

What @JerricaBenton: said. I think it's generally just fine but there are some people who prefer not, and I think often you can get the sense when they respond if they mean it or just feel obligated. Or sometimes it's just at a place that isn't really baby friendly, like a restaurant with a long sit down meal. But I made a point of telling my friends with babies I wanted them there! (And none came, for logistical reasons). she

@babypugs: I think that most people are understanding of breast fed or smaller babies going to events. I was hesitant to let older kids attend my shower, because they can't sit still for long.

I did once when my son was about 3 months old, but it was one of my best friends and I'd checked it with her. We also brought my son (at age 2) to a shower but that's because both my husband and I were invited. The mom to be made sure we knew we could bring him. There were several other kids there and they were all very distracting so ended up going outside to play. I'd say babies are fine but maybe double check with the guest of honor first.

I'd ask. My youngest (was @10 months at the time)wasn't invited to my cousin's shower because my aunt didn't want him to disrupt the shower?! Although the mom-to-be's nieces were there (toddlers). So I didn't go. I'd check.

I think small kids are okay at a baby shower but not a bridal shower.
