Do you have parking skills?
Most suburbanites know how to front end park well. Many city dwellers can parallel park unassissted. If you give me half an hour and three spaces I can back end park like a pro.

Not to pat myself on the back too much, but I am a BOSS when it comes to parking. I have a large SUV and can park it in places I've seen small sedens avoid! Booyah!

It's funny- my maiden name is Parker and there were so many jokes we used to make about being a good or bad Parker
I'm decent at parking I actually enjoy parallel parking.

I rock at parking. Comes from living in San Jose for 3 years.

I can do any of them except backing in-- I just won't even attempt that. But the others, it's got to be a decent size spot-- if it's really tight I'm not so good.
I parallel parked for my driving test when I turned 17 then didn't do it a single time for more than 10 years. I had to drive DH home from surgery a few years ago, and therefore park the car in the city outside our apt, so he had to re-teach me before the surgery. I haven't had a problem since but like I said, I won't attempt those super tight spots like he will.

When we visit DH's parents who live in the city and I'm driving we have to switch drivers I cannot parallel for the life of me. Did for my test and never looked back

I parallel parked my odyssey in a tight spot a few days ago. I felt so proud. Living in the northeast and having to street park every day served me well, even though it's been 5 yr since I've lived there!

I can understand not being able to parallel park or even back end park but how can someone be a licensed driver and not be able to pull into a spot? That's scary.
To answer your question, I park like a pro. It blows my husbands mind when I can slide right into parallel parking spot. It's like buttah!

I rock at parking, DH jokes I should have worked at a rental car place or car dealership. I love parking perfectly, anywhere, especially tight spaces backing in!!
I learned to drive, reverse, park, etc a truck and trailer at way too young an age and that's probably why I have fun parking whatever vehicle I'm in wherever works.
But seriously anyone else struggle when a lot is wide open? I can never get it in the lines, lol. I'm the ass who parks right up against people when they park too close to the lines too.

I can do all three. I don't like to parallel park though.

Um...takes me 15 minutes to reverse out of my garage.
Let's just say that if I had to re-do my 16 year-old drivers test again tomorrow: I'd fail miserably.

I haven't been able to parallel park since hurting my neck in an accident (rear ended). I'm sure I could relearn but even trying to turn my head over my shoulder scares the crap out of me. I stick to front end parking and can generally do a decent job... I'm currently learning to drive a much larger vehicle than I'm used to (small car to mid size SUV) & have still always managed in the lines & room on each side. Lol

I prefer driving through two spaces so I don't need to reverse in and it is easy to pull out. I will park a little bit further if I have to so I can do this.
Walkin neva' killed nobody... (or that's what I tell people when they are in the car complaining about it)

I was a pro at parallel parking when I had a smaller car but I wouldn't dare attempt it now that I have an SUV..

I'm a pro with my mid-sized SUV, but can't park my hubby's 3/4 ton Dodge to save my life.

Living in a decent sized city made me a good parallel parker, though once I got a spot I rarely wanted to leave!

I've actually become very good at parallel parking since I moved to Seattle.
As for front end, I'm good. As for back end, I'm very good. I think sometimes I park better backing in than pulling in. Haha.
I, also, have to say that now that I have a CRV, it's actually easier to park than my accord. I finally noticed how good of a parallel parker I became about a week before I sold it. I was kinda bummed that my next car might be harder to park. Luckily, it's been easier. I do, also, have a backup camera. Which is a nice feature.

I'm terrible! I can drive in ok. (Actually on the weekend my husband made a comment about me being too close to the other car as I was pulling in, but then when I straightened out.. it was the perfect angle and I was perfectly straight between the 2 cars! Doing that was even better than "I told you so"... haha!)
I can back in with a bit of time. The back up cam helps a lot!
And I can sometime parallel park my husband's tiny hatchback... but my SUV... I wouldn't even try

I always park front end first, it's quicker and easier. Though if you give me time I'm sure I can back end and parallel park.

I'm pretty good, but I used to be better. When I lived in the Bay Area I was such an awesome parallel parker. I then moved abroad and didn't drive for like 4 years. Now I'm decent at parallel parking, but not awesome. If there are people around I get nervous and flustered, ha. I don't want them to judge my parking skills!!
Funny story: when we learned to parallel park in driver's ed, my instructor would always take us to this street where all the rich people hung out and find a spot between two luxury cars. We learned real quick, hehe.

Not really. Sometimes I come back out from somewhere and think eesh, that's not parked, that's abandoned.

I'm not really great at parking at all. I tend to park at the very back of parking lots so that I have more space for error. I learned to drive in one of the smallest cars ever so everything feels too big to me now.
nectarine / 2886 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: LOL that sounds like me. Although I wouldn't really know because I've never tried to park back end first!
I'm a pretty good parallel parker but get nervous and flustered when I see cars behind me waiting to pass. I'm a mediocre front end parker.

I can do all three~ my dad made me practice the hell out of it before my road test because that's the first round before u can even go out on the road. And it stuck.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@betsyboop: ha ha! Alot of my neighbors back end to their driveways, but that's only two spaces. I'm so jealous!
pomelo / 5820 posts
Yes, I'm actually very good at parking! My new SUV has a backup camera, so now I'm even better at fitting the car into tight spots. Really helps you to learn the ends of your car. I tend to back into spaces more often than not.

I'm an awful parker, thank goodness for my SUV backup camera or I would be hitting things non-stop! haha
nectarine / 2886 posts
@Pepper: My car has a backup camera too but I think it's the rounded lens that throws me off! Objects are so much closer than they appear in the camera!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
I drive a massive SUV and can park all three ways. If I'm in a small car, I'm a pro!

I am the bomb (diggity!) at parallel parking . . . it's a necessity in the city. I know I shouldn't, but I giggle at the out-of-towners that struggle to pp in my 'hood on weekends . . .
