I feel like canon vs nikon is like windows vs mac. It's a huge debate about which is better and usually one hates the other! haha
I actually like both canon and nikon. But I do have a nikon camera. My SIL who is a pro photographer keeps trying to talk me into switching to canon...

I have a Cannon and I've never used a Nikon so I can't say I love both. They both seem like great choices. I guess I'll always stick with cannon now so I can still use my lenses.

I have a Nikon D900 and I love it. I think switching brands when you already have a perfectly good camera is a silly idea.

I have never met a pro photographer who preferred nikon (though I am sure there are some out therr).
My BIL is a professional photographer and videographer and he says canon all the way!

Canon! I've always used canon point and shoots and borrowed my friends Canon DSLR, so by the time I wanted my own, I was used to a Canon.

I didn't vote because whilst I've had a couple of Canon's in the past, I wouldn't say they are perfect and have heard pretty good things about Nikon's, so I would try one someday.

According to Wagon Sr., Nikon's in-camera editing menus are easier to use. He doesn't like sitting at a computer editing photos so he chose Nikon (for other reasons too I'm sure). Most of his friends who are professional photographers shoot Nikon as well. Or maybe he just doesn't talk about his Canon-shooting friends 
He equates the comparison to Toyota vs. Honda! Both are excellent choices and you can't go wrong with either. But some people just have a preference or loyalty.

I think they are very comparable in quality. Sometimes it comes down to the lenses, which are cheaper with Canon. I have a Nikon and absolutely love it. DH has 3 Nikon film SLRs, which he also loves. Our first and only Canon is a film rangefinder I found for $3 at a garage sale, and it is a great little camera.

@pui: well mine isn't lol. It was dropped and the LCD screen cracked and bled. I shoot "blind" because I can't see my ISO or flash settings. I have to take at least 10 practice shots to be sure my settings are correct. So eventually I will be getting a new body. But I think I'll stick with nikon anyhow.
@Rainbow Sprinkles: When I lived in NY all the photographers I knew shot with nikons. That's what swayed me to buy one myself!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I'm a professional photographer, and I shoot Nikon. There are quite a few of us. 
I like Nikon because while both camera system are nice, Nikon glass is superior. To me, the lens has the most impact on any shot, so I'm always going to go with the company that is known for the quality of their lenses. I'm not a Canon hater like a lot of Nikon shooters, and I recognize that both have the ability to take beautiful pictures, but I'll always have a Nikon.
PS: switching is silly.

Once I started using Canon point and shoots about a decade ago, I was hooked. I tried using a Nikon at some point, but just couldn't stray away from Canon again. I've had two Canon DSLR's and love them.

They're so similar so it really comes down to personal preference. We have a Canon Rebel t4i and it's amazing but the same can be said for the Nikons of the same caliber. FWIW, we spoke with a few very knowledgeable camera gurus before buying ours and they're all team Canon.

I have the Nikon d7000 and I love love love it. I'm not a pro and I even still shoot in auto mode but it takes great pictures. I would love to learn more about shooting in manual though.

Canon has better glass! Typically more vibrant colors while Nikon tends to give creamier skin tones. I'm super happy with my canon!

I don't have a DSLR yet, but when I get one it will be a Nikon. I was raised in a Nikon family, heh. My grandfather was an electronics dealer and had a camera shop from the 1930s onward, and Nikons were his favorite. Passed that to my dad, who passed it to me. I have a few old Nikons from the 60s/70s, that I would love to get better at shooting with and hand developing (dabbled in this in HS/college but haven't done anything since).

Both u can't go wrong with. I love my canon though and you can't go wrong with canon lenses. Esp. L series are pretty amazing

Canon .. I have tried Nikon but I find the interface of the Canon much more user-friendly.. or maybe it is just Reese-friendly.

i voted canon. i just switched from nikon and am finding that the skintones in my SOOC's are more true-to-life. =) it's a win for me!

Neither, I prefer my Olympus It fits my hands better and I'm consistently happy with the results I get from it. Honestly if you know how to shoot manual and have good quality glass, it doesn't matter what brand of camera you have.
