I've only bought cars pre-baby. When you go out and look at cars post-baby, do you bring your car seats with you and put them in the cars you're test-driving to make sure they fit and you are comfortable? Do you bring your kids too?

I have only bought a car post kid, and I didn't bring our seat. I just checked where the anchors were located.

Yes, we've been looking at cars and we bring the car seats and install them and take LO on the test drives. At first, I was fine with one of us staying with LO, but the car salesman was like--you should definitely put the car seat in and take her, so you can see how much space this car has! So then we started doing it.
They don't mind at all!

@Anagram: That's good to hear! I wasn't really sure how that worked, but it makes sense to me to make sure the car seats will fit (unless we just get the same make/model as my current car).

We have been looking at cars and we always bring our daughter's seats to test it out in the car and take them on the test drive. No one minds.

@Adira: I insisted on trying the car seat in any car we were seriously considering. Some salesmen seemed more happy about it than others, but whatever. It was one of my main criteria- since DH was researching pretty much everything else. We also brought c with us it if we had family to leave her with I would have. I just wasn't going to pay for a babysitter for that.

We brought our car seat and child and tested it out. Glad we did...my husband's favorite test drive recommended against putting a car seat in the center and we could not get a secure seat belt installation there, but the seat couldn't go on the sides and still give comfy leg room. So it was vetoed.

We test drove with a 4 month old but next time we buy (in the next year) dh and I will go solo. Not taking a toddler. We'll test how her carseat fits when we get to a finalist.

My cousin has triplets so they bring all three seats, even if the kids aren't with them, to make sure they fit. I totally would.

I just bought a car and i did not do this. It seemed like too much of a hassle. I felt confident the space would be big enough with a car seat though, if there was any doubt I would have tested it.

We looked but didn't buy post baby; since DD was always with us we would transfer her car seat and take her on the test drives. I definitely think taking the seats is a good idea, don't want to buy a car and find that the seats don't fit in a configuration that works for you.

We unintentionally bought a new car post LO1. She was with us and we did put her seat in and take her along on the test drive. It somehow kept the salesman from going with us (added bonus!).

I went car shopping when I was 3 months pregnant. I didn't bring the carseat with me, but definitely focused on trunk space to fit a stroller and interior cabin space. I ruled out at least 3 different cars that I wanted because their trunks were WAY too small! (The Prius, Nissan Leaf, and Honda Civic Hybrid.) I eventually ended up getting the Honda CR-V even though I had my heart set on getting an electric or hybrid car. It's just a lot easier to deal with when we have so much to schlep around.

We brought the car seat for test drives we were serious about. Try seats in the middle as well as directly behind the front seats to check fit. We also check strollers in the trunk. We have a giant Graco one that goes with the car seat and there were a few trunks it didn't fit in!

We brought our seats but not the kids! Way too hard with kids in tow!

How the car seat fit was a big deal to me. I insisted on bringing it so I could make sure it was comfortable because in our previous car it was a pain to get LO in and out of the door. It was no big deal.
