I live in Montana and single digits are common. But do I need a car seat cover, or are blankets/hats enough? Baby is due in January so I don't think we will be heading out much at first anyway.

It is 7 degrees here right now and I don't think a blanket is sufficient. Our car seat came with a muff so we use that in addition to a blanket.

We us a cover because it's windy where we live in addition to cold so the wind takes the blankets right off. Usually we use the cover with a heavy knit blanket on topnof that and sometimes even put a receiving blanket inside around her body.

I have a fleece one from Lands End that a friend gave me and it was nice when my LO was smaller, especially as a newborn. It prevented random people from touching him.

We have that JJ cole cover,it is better than just a blanket, sometiems we put a blanket on her first before using the cover. Now that she no longer uses her infant seat, we use the JJcole cover with her stroller

I would definitely get a cover instead of blankets. Make sure you get something like http://jjcolecollections.com/car-seat-cover and not like the BundleMe. They're safer.

We live in MI and have a car seat cover, it keeps her warm and keeps the blankets from falling off.
